Nope not at all, I adopt my animals because I love them and want to give them the best possible home- not because of anything to do with my romance issues. Which by the way, i'd certainly like to disprove that myth- i have a wonderful man, and all of my wonderful animals. I would never be with someone who didn't like my animals and mind them being around. Colin is awesome about them too- he even lets me keep my foster kittens at his house So yes ladies, we can have it both- a great man in our life and wondeful kitties as well.

that's a stupid theory. I have a man AND a cat although at times I prefer the cat hahahahahaah. sorry Jim.

I don't think so... men and cats are WAY different. Maybe cats instead of kids, I can see that.

But I was three years old when I got my first cat, and I wasn't looking for anything else.

I think I just inherited the "cat owner" gene.
There have always been cats in my life and my mother had always had cats in her life, her parents had cats.....

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the kitty in the kitty carrier! I had DH 1st, and then LuckyGirl found him, and he was all, "we can't leave her here....she's staaaaarvvvvving....." that's it, it was love at 1st sight!

**** your too funny Bruce!****

Well, IMO it's a trade off.

Boys have cooties
Cats put their butts in your face

Hmmm....I think I'd rather have the cat butts! I guess I don't care to get a man, unless he doesn't like kids. I don't want kids, unless they're furry, have 4 legs, & a tail.

The only benefit I can think of that comes with having a man is more income, therefore more money to spend on the kitties or else I can afford to have more kitties!

I got the man first, THEN I got the cats, and Ian sort of instigated the whole cat thing

The history of it is that I never had cats growing up and had also been attacked by a large dog (a poorly trained and most likely abused lab-chow mix NOT a bully breed) so other than small animals and little non-sporting dogs, I have always been leery of other animals. It doesn't really make sense, but that's the way my little kid brain worked and so it followed me into adulthood.

Well, enter Ian and his family, who not only own a shep mix, but also 2 kitties.

So he sort of took it upon himself to show me that these animals are wonderful. I fell in loooovvvee with his cats (one of them in particular) and decided, with his help, to find one of my own. Enter Leo. I liked Leo so much that I started to volunteer at a cageless, no-kill cat shelter. Then, I liked that so much that I got a way better job so that I could support 2 kitties. Unfortunately, that kitty passed on (my Lola-bug who I miss every day). But one thing led to another and there are now 3 cats living with me here. Not only that, but the shelter liked me so much they hired me as adoptions/outreach staff. All because of Ian! (and TCS )

Mark Twain:
"If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat."

No shortage of men around here!

hehe.... sorry for sounding arrogant, but cats will always be part of my life and not one man has ever had an issue with them- in fact they always end up loving cats as much as i do

I also had a man before I had the cats. Though they ARE all male cats...maybe one man just wasn't enough. Actually, DH got all three cats for me...so what do you suppose that means?

I got John first, and then added the cats

Every cat I've adopted has been while in a realationship.
My fiancé actually had cats when I met him, and three of our six are his.

Well I've had cats since I was 5 years old... wasn't even thinking of men yet!

First there was cat. Then came husband. Husband left, cat remained.

Enter current hubby into the scene. He claimed he didn't like cats. I told him I wouldn't have a relationship with a man who didn't like cats. We got married anyway. Then came a couple dogs, a couple more cats, more dogs, more cats, more cats, more cats (you get the picture). Hubby is the best orphaned kitten bottle feeder that I know. He really likes cats now.

My SIL told me once that I should have children to curb my cravings for furry 4-leggeds. RIGHT (NOT)!!! I will chose cats over men, but have also chosen cats over kids.

Well since I adopted all my kitties while a had a man then I would say no its not true for me.
I don't think that's a 100% true. I have cats and a man. So I guess thier not just for single females. Althought I'm sure people may get them to replace the companionship a significant other would provide.

but definitely not a lonely single woman, my dog keeps me busy and company, the cat is to be spoiled... she wants real tuna tonite, not the one mixed with cat tuna

Same here - I've gone from 2 cats to 8, since being married!! And I can afford much better cat food and fancier carriers too
