Do women adopt cats because they can't get a man?

BTW, what is the name of the cat on the Simpsons? I know the dog's name but I cannot remember the cat's.

Now you're just being silly you're not a woman the title said why women get cats. See just goes to show women have to tell men everything.

And truthfully? I prefer my kitty in bed next to me purring me to sleep than having to listen to a snoring man keep me awake.
I agree and with cats if they decide to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night they won't wake you up by making a bunch of noise. And you don't have to watch what they want to watch on the tv

Snowball II

I had the man, who was trying to convince me to get a cat when Ophelia came into our lives. Definitely wasn't trying to find a replacement for the man.

Had a man, cats, kids, dogs, horses, geese, chickens, a pig, a pony and 19 acres of land. Because of the MAN, the horses and pony had to be sold, the chickens too, the geese too, the pig we put in the freezer, the dogs sold and the land sold.......so that left me with the man, kids and cats.

Then the MAN left, the kids left, and that left me the cats. I know who loves me.

If I have to be a slave to anything, it will be the cats.

It was Nate's idea to get a cat, I'd never had one before

The image of having a cat because they can't get a man is plainly ridiculous. Not every woman WANTS a relationship anyway! And if you're single then a cat is great company, and I see no problem with that

Well, the man and I got the cats together. I doubt I would have adopted one cat, much less two, if I had been alone -- I just couldn't afford it by myself. I got my first cat when I was ten, so I very much doubt that she was a substitute for a man, seeing as how I was still playing with Ninja Turtles back then ...

Of all my friends who have cats, only one is single (divorced), and she had the cats before the divorce. In my circle of friends, adopting a cat together is a sign of commitment. It's like buying a house or moving in together.

Well, men adopt cats too, you know. Is this because they cannot get a woman? Although I suppose most men would adopt dogs. Back when I was single and had several cats it is hard to say what people were saying behind my back.

I remember seeing a personal ad by a guy online...the title was: I'm here to rescue someone from having to become a crazy cat lady!

Ugh...he's lucky i didn't know who he was!!!

I find it more common that lonely women get dogs rather than cats because of the unconditional love/needy thing. Not that my cat doesn't love me, but he's not in need of constant attention.

But as for me, I had the cat and try to find a man suitable for us now rather than just for me. Most of my dates didn't like my cat, which is a true test of character for me, I can't be with someone who doesn't love the gogo.

Nope not at all, I adopt my animals because I love them and want to give them the best possible home- not because of anything to do with my romance issues. Which by the way, i'd certainly like to disprove that myth- i have a wonderful man, and all of my wonderful animals. I would never be with someone who didn't like my animals and mind them being around. Colin is awesome about them too- he even lets me keep my foster kittens at his house
So yes ladies, we can have it both- a great man in our life and wondeful kitties as well.

I don't think so... men and cats are WAY different. Maybe cats instead of kids, I can see that.

But I was three years old when I got my first cat, and I wasn't looking for anything else.

Cheers, from

I think I just inherited the "cat owner" gene.
There have always been cats in my life and my mother had always had cats in her life, her parents had cats.....

I had DH 1st, and then LuckyGirl found him, and he was all, "we can't leave her here....she's staaaaarvvvvving....." that's it, it was love at 1st sight!

Well, IMO it's a trade off.

Boys have cooties
Cats put their butts in your face

Hmmm....I think I'd rather have the cat butts!
I guess I don't care to get a man, unless he doesn't like kids. I don't want kids, unless they're furry, have 4 legs, & a tail.

The only benefit I can think of that comes with having a man is more income, therefore more money to spend on the kitties or else I can afford to have more kitties!

I got the man first, THEN I got the cats, and Ian sort of instigated the whole cat thing

The history of it is that I never had cats growing up and had also been attacked by a large dog (a poorly trained and most likely abused lab-chow mix NOT a bully breed) so other than small animals and little non-sporting dogs, I have always been leery of other animals. It doesn't really make sense, but that's the way my little kid brain worked and so it followed me into adulthood.

Well, enter Ian and his family, who not only own a shep mix, but also 2 kitties.

So he sort of took it upon himself to show me that these animals are wonderful. I fell in loooovvvee with his cats (one of them in particular) and decided, with his help, to find one of my own. Enter Leo. I liked Leo so much that I started to volunteer at a cageless, no-kill cat shelter. Then, I liked that so much that I got a way better job so that I could support 2 kitties. Unfortunately, that kitty passed on (my Lola-bug who I miss every day). But one thing led to another and there are now 3 cats living with me here. Not only that, but the shelter liked me so much they hired me as adoptions/outreach staff. All because of Ian! (and TCS
)
