I've worked with it in the past. I don't particularly like it. I think it's a lot harder to work with that Photoshop, not as user friendly. Also, it really sucks up the computer memory. They do have some pretty cool special effects on the Gimp, but I am more than happy with Photoshop.

I was going to try it, but after reading reviews of some better freeware, I decided to go with Serif Photo Plus and Paint.NET. I alternate between the two. Its a little burdensome than just using photoshop, but they ARE free (plus, I just had to buy AutoCad and Architectural Desktop, so spending money on photoshop was out of the question!)

Theres also a link to it on this site:

It didn't make me donate anything, but you do have to download '.NET' software from microsofts website, which it will automatically promt you to do when you try to install it. Note that this is a later version than the one on the first link provided. I had to search this site to find it, but it works very well (especially for freeware!)

Girst you choose the selector tool (you can also do this for point to point and use step two after)

then select the area as you would with a cropping tool and then go to Image > Crop to Selection (it will crop to the part shown in purple in my pic)
