Hello guys, I'm new here and I joined because I have a question and I hope one of you might know. I have a cat, about 10 years old, named Luna. She generally healthy and a happy cat. She likes to play and what not. Sometime earlier this year she began to wheez a bit. Over time everyday she was wheezing and wheezing and we were afraid it might be astma(sp). We took her to the vet and she gave her a shot saying it should last the whole winter. It didn't seem to work so the vet told us she didn't have astma, so they took an X-Ray of her lungs. From what they told my mom she has a black spot in her chest that they can't identify. They asked her if she is still active and everything (normal pretty much) and my mom said yes. If she wasn't normal then the vet would have said she might have cancer. She said it might also be an infection so she gave us some anti-biotics which I gave her for about 2 weeks. It seems like it hasn't helped either. She is still wheezing so tomorrow I plan to call the vet again. Just today though she had a major episode and went for about 2 minutes straight of wheezing and I can tell it was worse then I have ever seen it before. When she was done you can hear strange sounds and she was totally exhausted. Her eyes were low and she just stood there, in complete stillness still making these weird breathing sounds. Well there's a general explanation of her current health. Please if anyone has had any similiar situation with their cat or know anything, please help me. Luna is the love of my life and I am really worried about her. Thank you.....

Oh sweetie, you must be panicked. If your vet can not seem to find out what is going on with your baby, I would suggest another vet. Second opinions sometimes really help out.

I don't know what to tell you if the problem is cancer.....there are a lot of people here at this site whose cats have cancer, and I am sure that others will be along to help out as much as they can.

In the meantime, please try to relax, just love and hug your baby and get to the vet's first thing in the morning. Again, if you are not happy with the treatment, second opinions are always available, including feline oncologists. (cancer specialists)

Soooothing headbuts and calming, peaceful licks from KittenKiya's Clan.

PS: Sorry, where are my manners. Welcome to TheCatSite.!!

PPS: Did they say anything about fluid in her lungs?

Fluid in her lungs? No, they just told my mom (I didn't actually hear this conversation) that there was a black spot. They don't know what it is though.

The reason I mentioned fluid is that you said she was completely exhausted, and was making strange sounds. Were they like gurgling sounds?

The vet is going to need to spent some time with your baby, I don't need to tell you that something is wrong.

We are here for you. You hang in there and let us know how you and she make out, OK?

Well sometimes she does make this sort of gurgling sound but they only last like a split of a second. These sounds were high pitched breathing sounds and just other sounds not normally heard from, well anything I suppose. It was pretty bad. I picked her up and she made this very light sounding 'meow', she could barely even making that sound. Again thank you, I'll be sure to update.

Oh honey, I hurt for you. I know I would just be nuts if this was happening to one of my babies.

Please get her to another vet ASAP - it's obviously serious, but there could be help if things are addressed now. And ask whoever you see about a respiratory specialist, as there are cat specialists too. Good luck!
