Do you have one, and if so, what brand is it, and would you recommend it to others?
I'm thinking about getting my husband (an inexpensive) one for Christmas. He has loads of concert/music lesson DVDs, which at this point he can only play in the living room, where the (only) TV and DVD player are. He won't "mess with" my laptop, which is also in the LR. His piano is upstairs in the spare bedroom, and he often plays guitar in the upstairs study, because the acoustics are good there. I was thinking that he could use a portable DVD player in either of those rooms, or watch DVDs in bed.
There are a few brands that also have digital terrestrial TV reception, but they're no good for us, because our valley gets no terrestrial reception anymore, now that everything has gone digital.

We got Dave one last year for his birthday in November, and he LOVES it! Durabrand, which is like Walmart's house brand, and it was around $100US. It's held up really well, and comes with a car adapter as well. This is like the one he as http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4756576, and the price has went down
Less that $80US... Oh well...

We did end up getting the carrying case and an extra battery for it, which was another $60 total.

I am glad you started this thread, Tricia. I have been thinking about getting my Dad a portable dvd player, along with a couple of seasons of the game show Jeapordy (I am assuming they have it out, haven't checked yet). I am interested to hear form others who have them.

I think it's common nowadays that people have TVs and DVD players in living rooms, bedrooms, and sometimes kitchens, but for those who only have one TV, etc., these devices have a certain appeal. Anybody who has to take long car trips with kids has probably given in to the temptation to buy one.
Hubby, despite having a degree in computer science, is a bit of a technophobe (no cell phone, won't use the Internet, and gets me to program the VCR for him), so such a simple device sounds just right for him.

That's what I have in mind - 7" to 7 1/2", and under $100.

That was my black Friday steal!!! I got one at 5am at Kohl's for $49.00....it was regularly priced @ $200. It is just the Hollywood Video brand, nothing special, but it was the only way my daughter was getting one for Christmas....
