So on Thanksgiving me and my parents and Zissou went for a walk up to campus. Zissou was trotting along else riding my shoulder happily for a long time, and then we got to the lake on campus.

There are several ghost stories about this lake, supposedly it is haunted by a husband and wife who used to be a professor. http://www.forgottenoh.com/OSU/osu.html

So we get to the hollow... and Zissou absolutely flips out. Tail puffed, hopping sideways, etc. We weren't close enough yet for her to be scared of just the water. She was even trying to run away (yay for leashes, ey?) and scraping her nails on the sidewalk. I picked her up and calmed her down, and carried her for awhile. She seemed totally fine, but then again later she did the same freak-out routine.

Both times she was staring dead-on at some spot just above the lake... and we weren't in the same spot, so it wasn't the environment.

I know we've talked about this before, but do you guys think she saw a ghost or something?

I do have to say, this lake has a fountain in the middle. But it was on the whole time, and it didn't seem to be what she was looking at.

What do yall think?
Am I crazy, or was she looking at a ghost?

I say yes, because several years ago when i split from a bf, Rosie would stare at the wall at the bottom of the bed. It was a few months later that i had a fortune teller/psychic at the house and she told me because i'd been upset recently, my mum was sitting at the bottom of the bed watching me sleep

So, was it my mum Rosie was looking at?

I do believe cats can see spirits. However it could have been a smell she didn't like. Maybe a dog had been there and it freaked her out?

I say considering the level of her freak out and that she did it in two different spots yes it may have been a ghost because I do believe in them. And next time your kitty does that maybe it would be a good idea to switch routes maybe she was trying to tell you something.

It's always hard to tell, cause unless you can see it too, then you never know for sure.

There is a theory that dogs and cats can sense things we can't. It could be possible that she saw something, but I would try to debunk it before jumping to any conclusions.

Take her back out there at midnight and see what she does

I have no doubt that cats...all animals in fact see things that we don't.

Our cat Maggie used to stare at one of the walls in our living room and meow her head off, I didn't think much of it at first but after Maggie died and we got Gracie and Lizzie they both did the very same thing.
We got Annabelle and she did it too.

I KNOW there was something in that house that we didn't see, but they sure did.

I never believed in ghosts until I lived in a haunted house (on Princeton Street in Austin, Texas). There was just no doubt about it. The man who owned the house said he could still "feel" his wife there, who died falling down the stairs leaving him with three very young children. The neighbors called it "the tragedy house." I eventually figured out why the rent was so cheap! He couldn't keep anyone in the house! I could tell stories about the noises, and things opening by themselves, but...

My cats would freak out the same times the hair on the back of my neck would stand up. And they would stare for ages at a certain place on the wall (both of them), then they would jump up like they were trying to catch something there.

So, yes, I think they can sense things we can't!

With out a doubt! Cats and other animals can tell you a lot if you are willing to listen. She was most likely trying to protect you, and herself.

I truly think cats can sense things. There are times when I will be sitting around and will feel like someone is watching me and Tavia will be a bit spooked or she will come lay in the bed with me and either lay at the foot of my bed with her inbetween me and the hallway or ontop of me. She will also sometimes begin meowing very loudly for now apparent reason and will be trying to get to something on the wall when there isn't anything there.

I do believe they can sense things, including ghosts. Wonton has suddenly stared at "nothing" before too, and it's always a very eerie feeling.

I've also seen and heard many things that convince me that ghosts and spirits exist. I think we have the same ability as animals to see invisible things, it's just that we're not as in tune as they are.

This thread made me a little jumpy last night! I also believe that cats can sense things we can't, and while I think its totally cool, it also makes me a little scared when I'm home alone and the kits start acting funny. Like last night my roommate didn't stay here, and I had just gotten in bed and was watching TV around 10:30. Milo came up and layed on my chest for a little while, then all the sudden looked past my head to the wall above my head. His pupils got a bit bigger, and he slowly turned his head to the corner. I finally covered his eyes up because he was freaking me out! I moved my hand and his eyes went back to the same spot. I made him get up and checked my wall, thinking there may be a bug or something but never found anything. A little bit later, Marlee came to lay with me and did nearly the same thing! Talk about a scary night!!
