I had one of these cats who lived to be 20 years old.  She was incredibly mellow and affectionate, more than any cat I've ever known.  By age 18 she had kidney failure; with medication and hydration we kept her comfortable for 2 years. Eventually she just stopped eating and had to be put to sleep.  She was a big girl, fluffy and had enormous paws. She is missed.

It's so hard to lose them. Sounds like she had a wonderful life and you took fantastic care of her. Amazing that you were able to keep you comfortable for 2 years after the kidney failure.

Actually he perfers random bits of garbage (Kleenex out of the garbage are his favourite), as opposed to store bought toys!
Oh, yes. I don't bother buying cat toys - in my experience, they're almost always ignored in favor of a plastic bag, a ball of rolled up paper or a lost pencil.

"Lost" pencil? You do know that they steal things, hide them, then sit back and watch you madly look for them, right? They have their own website where they post pictures of us and add humorous titles!

I have a black and white cat and she does not like water at all, she is very playful but only with me. As for big personality, she does have one...and quite a vocal range, she can howl, growl, meow like a kitten, the whole deal.

My baby kitty is tiger-like and she does love water. Way too much, she loves to splash around in her water bowl and then run around like a crazy thing leaving footsteps all over the place.

I have a little "cow cat" and he's the sweetest little boy! He's extremely affectionate with me and loves to be pet.. everything from literally just touching his nose to really kneading him lol. He LOVES to play.. he'll chase a laser pointer til he's panting and won't ever stop! He gets along pretty well with my other cat, but he does want to play a lot more than she does.. could be he's just younger, who knows. As for the water... he doesn't like to play with it. He drinks a TON of it, which I love, so maybe that's the extent of his water fixation lol. So funny how this is even a thread!

I'll bet that's your cow cat in your avatar. What a cutie! He looks like he is about to get up to something, which I'll bet he usually is
. Looking forward to more pictures of him.

You're absolutely correct and thank you! He's a little mischief maker, how'd you know hehe. It's because of him that I have child safety locks on my cabinets and doors.. he's learned how to open them! I can't wait to post more pictures of him (I take a lot, ha)!

Mischief is written all over that sweet face. Have you ever tried the little bouncy rubber balls with him? The way he opens the cabinets & plays with the laser, I'll bet you could teach him to catch and retrieve.

I have tried that! He does it with socks lol.. he loves black socks more than I could ever convey. If I toss it, he'll bring it back over for more.. it's the silliest thing. If I don't immediately pick it up, he'll hop on top of me and lay the sock on my lap.. just to make sure I haven't missed it. We haven't played in a while, though, he makes me get the laser pointer whenever he can lol.

Well, i am not sure that my Mystique qualifies as a Cow Cat. every description of Cow Cats has said Black and white and as you can see, she is Gray and White. only black on her is that little spot on her nose and the very tip of her tail. all the rest of her family were Black and White, Both parents and 4 siblings. but not her.

As for  personality, she hates being around water. she wouldn't even go near her water bowl if she didn't need to drink. She is strictly an indoor kitty and she freaks out any time we take her outside. but she is the most loving and possessive cat i have ever known. She insists on being either on me or near me all the time. She gets very upset if my wife or either of the other cats get too close to me for too long. and she definitely does not like strangers. and she has never really been fond of play. if i produce a toy, she will play with me for about 5 minutes then just lay down and ignore the toy. she will sometimes start play with the other cats only to suddenly end that play in a couple minutes with hisses and claws.  she is a foodie, she loves all food and we have found very few things she doesn't like. she is very intelligent and able to quickly figure out even difficult pet puzzles. at the age of 8, her favorite activity is to lay in my lap and purr or sit close to me and stare at me for hours on end.

My sweet Olive LOVES the bathtub, drinks from the faucet (never her bowl), is super friendly to everyone with a giant personality, and loves to cuddle. Everyone who meets her feels this unique gentleness and sweetness, almost like she really does have a soul. What a blessing she is to me. It's indeed interesting that a lot of people are expressing similar traits in their cow cuties. :)

Hmm, so far my new black and white kitten seems afraid of water. Its Niko, the copper/striped boy that gets on the ledge of the bathtub. He crouches and acts like he's going to jump right into the water (which I'm a bit afraid of) but usually decides not to once he dips his paws in. But so far, no my cow kitten doesn't seem to like water.

So, I was bored last night and looking up random things on Wikipedia. (Yes, I'm a nerd.) Under the entry for "bicolor cat" they say cow cats (mostly white with black spots) are thought to have the following characteristics: "a love of water, big personalities and a playful nature". I have no idea where they are getting this info from, so I'm curious to see if y'all see similar qualities in your little white and blacks?

Miss Arizona:

love of water--Well, she's not the kind of cat who wants to join you in the shower, but she does love drinking running water, and she does seem to drink a lot of it.

big personality--check. She has an opinion about everything and is not shy about sharing it.

playful nature--at 6 years old, she's slowing down, but she does have her little games.

Your turn!
Have a beautiful long-haired female named Anastasia (actually not our cat, but son and daughter-in-law's we are keeping for a while). Very vocal, lots of personality, but not particularly playful. While I can't say she likes water, at least she has no fear of it. Comes in wet after rain or dashing through sprinklers. Once clawed through neighbor's screen cage and fell into his swimming pool, emerged none the worse for it.
