Hey everyone,

I have a 4.5 month old male kitten and he has a bit of a problem. Every once in awhile he just won't finish going to the bathroom, and have poop hanging out of his ass. He sits on it, and then it gets stuck in his fur, and he then proceeds to wipe it on the ground wherever he pleases to get it off.

This morning we woke up to the lovely aroma of cat feces, to find multiple spots throughout our apartment where he had dragged his tush across. I just cleaned the litter box 2 days ago, so that's definitely not the problem.

Any ideas?

Is he long haired or short? A lot of long-haired cats need to have the area under their tail trimmed.

Also, what cat food is he currently eating?

He's long-haired. I feel so bad because it gets stuck in his fur and I have to pull it out since he doesn't do it himself and he moans and cries, etc.

Both of our cats are on the kitten science diet. It's dry food, if you didn't know already.

Its not the cats fault this happens all the time with long haired cats. I have a Persian and I find keeping the fur trimmed around that area really helpes with the poop sticking in his fur.

I've had multiple long-haired cats before him and this has never been a problem.

It's usually just a little stuck to him that I have to clean up, but this morning he had smudged it all over the floor and carpets...Not cool.

This really is a common issue with long-haired cats, and it's not that the little guy isn't finishing his poop, it's that his poop is soft enough, and his fur is long enough, that the two are sticking together.

Disgusting, yep, but easy to fix. Just give the hair under his booty and at the base of his tail a good trim, and thereafter keep it trimmed.

(That you have had long-haired kitties before and not had to deal with this only means you're lucky, not that it's not a typical problem. *smile*)
