You are a wonderful mama! I am feeding Humble, and I pray he isn't too mad at me for forcing him to eat his special food. But I want him to be healthy and to not go into renal failure.

The vet says he is JUST beginning to have some renal insufficiency, so if I make him eat the right foods, he will be very healthy.

Katie, I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. As others have said, many would not be putting forth the effort that you have for these babies. Sending you lots of good vibes, and hugs.

Thank you again everyone! Renny, I did get some Nutri-cal and mixed it in with the Wellness food and got about 3 tsps in him earlier and I am going to do it again before bed and then again in the morning, the Interferon will be in tomorrow and that will hopefully be the magic drug
I also got about 5 tsps in Nemo, but he took off before I could attempt anymore sub-Q fluids

Glad to hear you got the Nutri-cal. In my worse force feeding moments I felt a little more confident knowing I got some of that into them...not a good long-term solution i know. I'll be hoping and praying that this combination with the interferon brings his appetite back online. There's nothing worse then that helpless feeling.

Just wanted to share my experience with a sick cat who wouldn't eat. The vet said to force feed. My cat wouldn't take it. He became very afraid of me trying to give him anything. Finally I went to another vet. He kept him for 3 days on an I.V., I have now had him for a couple of years with no health concerns. Good luck.

I thought you might find this site helpful
http://www.petdiets.com/default.asp?...culate/der.asp It helps you calculate the number of calories your cat needs to maintain it's weight (adjust up for gaining).

I can tell you from experience, that a few teaspoons a day, even boosted with nutrical are not going to be enough. I strive for 150 cc of blenderized food per day for Tyler currently, divided into several feedings each day. From my time on an assist-feeding support group, I believe the goal should be 150 to 200 cc per day.

If you would like the url to join this support group, whose cats have a range of health issues, pm me.

best wishes for the interferon to help,

I hope things start picking up for your hermes.
Your couragous and an ispiration to all of us cat owners...your showing us that having a cat who has special needs and who is going through the process leukemia isnt about giving up...but being the best mommy you can be and giving it your all! Great job!

My Babykitty died my senior year in high school. He was losing weight and he stopped eating/drinking. I worked part time and did not have the money to run all the tested needed. I forced him to drink water but had no idea how to get him to eat. This is a great place for advice and I only wish I had all the TCS homies back then.

forcing feeding a cat is hard...try force feeding a ball python....YUCK!

It is a WONDERFUL group, too! I joined and found great things! From this group, I learned how to finger feed my Humble.

I pray for you and hope things go well.

I am finger feeding Humble his prescribed food. It's HARD, but it is worth it.

Might I say that your kitties are lovely, EricaNicole!
