Morning, I need some advise, please. Besides canned pumpkin, cause thats not a hit, any other suggestions to get Miss Boo to have a BM? She is 3 days post partum, nursing and its been 4 days (+) that she hasnt had a BM. I was wondering baby food prunes or prune juice (like when a baby gets slowed down). I am not knowledgable about what nursing Mama cats can have and what they cant have. I dont want to bother my Vet anymore cause I am starting to feel like I am and was hoping with everyone heres experiece someone might have a suggestion. ALSO, kittens seem to be fighting over getting to nipples, I dont think her milk is in, (3 days post c-section) is her milk in or when should it come in? Should I start to bottle feed the babies?

I don't have any suggestions for your constipated cat. You may want to post here:

As there is a vet who answers questions.

That is very normal....kittens do fight over the BEST nipples. What is important is whether or not the kittens are gaining weight and the only way to tell that is to buy a little scale and weigh them daily. If you notice that any of them are not gaining weight..then you should be prepared to bottle feed them.

Kitten Weight
At birth, weight should be approx 3-3.4 ounces.

At age 1 week weight should be approx. 4 ounces.

At age 2 weeks, weight should be approx. 7 ounces.

At age 3 weeks, weight should be approx. 10 ounces.

At age 4 weeks weight should be approx. 13 ounces.

At age 5 weeks, weight should be approximately 1 pound.

By the end of the 8th week, kittens should weigh approximately 2.2 pounds.

Of course, all these weights are approximate. You may have a kitten that is slightly under or over these weights and still be perfectly healthy. If ever you have a concern about your kitten, or he just doesn't seem 'right', consult a vet.

As for the constipation, you might try giving your little Boo a little warmed whole milk. NOT MUCH as it can have the undesired effect of causing diarrhea, but a little might help to loosen her up and get things moving.

With regard to bottling the babies ... the best idea is to get a little scale (one that weighs in both grams and ounces) and weigh the kittens daily. You should see progress and weight gain each day. If you aren't seeing weight gain or if the kittens seem fractious and are vocalizing loudly and frequently, then yes, by all means, get some goat's milk (I do not like KMR at all!) and warm the milk gently to feed them.
