When Radar has his stitches out....

... will he be sedated?

He's booked in for Friday morning, just wondering if I ought to take all of Friday off work to look after him if he's a bit dazed from being sedated.

I'm leaning towards taking the day off anyway, just because

Unless they gave you a sedative to give him beforehand, he shouldn't be sedated. Usually only cats that act up ( ie -- try to kill us! ) need to be sedated to have sutures removed.

Maggie goes to get her stitches out today. I expect it to only take a min, and no medication involved. And my vet didn't require appointment, just have to be there between 3 and 5.

Mostly it depends on the cat. Most don't require sedation but some cats flip out and endanger themselves and the vet/staff unless they're sedated. In the event that sedation is required, the vet will probably keep him for the rest of the day so he can recover.

Thanks.

I don't think he'll flip out, but he is a bit of a wriggler! I'll trim his claws before Friday anyway, don't want anyone to lose any skin.

He actually loves going to the vet so I'm not too worried about it. But I still think I might take the day off anyway, it's nice to have a day off once in a while.

Yea go ahead and take the day off for fun! I just got back with Maggie having her stitches out, and I kid you not, took about 60 seconds, all done.

Yay that was nice and easy. Radar is so good at the vets, although he did at one point lean forward and attempt to groom her hair while she was taking a stitch out! Only a slight wriggle requiring repositioning of cat once. I'm so proud of the way he behaves at the vet, I swear he loves going up there, he's always eager to get in his carrier
