It may seem a bit random that I am posting here, but TCS people have helped me out with so many queries over the past two years (I think!) since I joined that I thought it would be worth a shot.

I am trying to break into freelance writing and am looking for some freelance work to build up my portfolio. I don't mind non-paying work as I love to write and consider it a hobby.

Was just wondering if anyone knew of any magazines or websites who welcomed submissions?

Libraries usually carry the current copy of Writer's Market. (There are actually a number of them...Short Story Writer's Market, Poetry Writer's Market, Screen Writers, etc) Or you can buy one.

They list publishers who accept submissions as well as what the submission guidelines are, whether it's paid, unpaid, how many words, appropriate topics, whether to query first, etc. Tells you where to send, to whose attention and how long before you should expect a response. In addition there are usually articles to help you format your cover/article/manuscript properly. If you already know all this...never mind.

Thank you for your replies, it means a lot to me as I have been a very bad TCS member and havent posted in ages

The website looks great, and I havent heard of that Writer's Market before. Is it just a USA thing? I am sure they must do a UK version or something similar too.

And thank you for the vibes, can always do with them!
