I've had Jury Duty since July. I was suppose to show up Friday for a trial. I read my schedule wrong.

I hope the judge understands.

I hadn't even thought of that. Thanks for putting that horrific thought in my head....

It may be extreme but it is a threat they make on the letter they send you for jury duty here.

During our orientation they said missed Jurors may get a contempt of court. But that it was the discretion of the Judge whether to issue it or not. If it was the male judge. I don't think I'll hear a word about it. If it was the woman judge...I'm in big dodo.

I am from Ky and they usually just give you a fine. If you've showed up for the others then that's probably all they'll do. My sister was a clerk in a court in Frankfort for 15 years and said they usually only fine you

Hopefully they don't even fine me. I mean I've gone every other time. And I've even served on one trial. I have proved that I take Jury Duty seriously.

See they sent out a paper saying my calendar was wrong. And gave me the new dates to call. Well I misread it. I called on Wednesday but didn't see that it said Thursday as well. I just called because I see my calendar says to call today and they haven't changed the message yet. So I know I was suppose to go in Friday. I couldn't even if I had gotten the message then. Because I have to take my daughter to school on fridays. I would not have been home in time for her to get off the bus. Hubby would be home but he normally sleeps in. And there's no waking him once he's in his coma sleep!.

Arizona. I don't know what they actually do, I've never had the nerve to test them and fortunately I haven't forgotten when I've had a trial.

When Shawn got his papers to serve on Jury duty, he told them he couldn't because I was pg with his first child and was ready to have the baby any day. They told him they would hold him in contemt if he didn't show up in front of the Judge and state his claim.
So, I went with Shawn and waddled into the Court room with him. When they called DH's name, he told them why he couldn't be on the jury and the Judge asked if I was his wife.He then asked if I would stand,so I did and he told Shawn "well, it looks like you have more important things to worry about than this". and let him go.
I would call them as soon as you can and explain it.

6 months actually. It's just the way it's done here. That doesn't mean you have to serve on a jury every time. But you have to show up for the jury selection.

Oh my goodness that's a long sentence for the jurors. They should make jury duty less like punishment, lol.

Yeah but see I don't have to do it everyday or anything. It just depends on when they schedule trials. And many of those have been canceled. So it's not as bad as it sounds.

I think the worst part is that it only pays $12.50 a day.

Personally I think everyone should do it at least once. It's a great learning experience.

Jurors aren't only chosen from voter registrations. Some are chosen from lists provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Labor, Department of Revenue Services etc. They'll getcha one way or another.
It's not that bad to serve on a jury. It can be interesting to watch the real process and not a t.v. version of it.

I was called for jury duty with it saying if I didnt show I would be held in contempt. The day I was supposed to go, I woke up, sick. I sent my SO up there and he explained and was told, "Tell her I hope she feels better" .... I didnt know what would happen and had people telling me I was going to be in deep dodo, but it turned out to be nothing at all.
