My vet gave me a free bag of science diet kitten food and Shami's been eating for about a week now. Normally I feed him Nutro, but he ate it all and I never got the chance to get another bag.

Anyway, I've noticed his stools are rather stinky and loose. Not diarrhea, just kind of soft. I'm thinking it's from the food, but he's had this looseness for about a week now and I think it's sort of getting worse. He's also got this pudgeyness in his belly. He's not overweight (actually kind of underweight), and I've only ever seen the pudgey belly in older slightly overweight cats. What's this from?

Did you just quickly switch foods or did you mix them together? Fast switching can upset a kitty's stomach. Also, how does his belly feel? Does it feel tight? Did it start when you switched the food? It might be gas then, another problem from an upset stomach. Switch back to Nutro (which is much better for your kitty anyway). Then if you want to switch his food later, start by mixing a small amount of the new stuff in and then increasing the new stuff slowly.

If the pudgey belly started before you switched the food, has your kitten been tested for worms lately? They're very common. You'd just need to bring a fecal sample in to the vet for testing.

Yep switched outright with no mixing. His belly actually feels very loose, he's got a little sack almost that hangs from his belly. He got treated for worms not too long ago, about 2 weeks, and did a fecal just last week which came up negative. Before that he did have a very pot bellied look and I'm wondering if it's just the loose skin from being stretched.
