Hubby says: It wouldn't hurt to throw in some engine conditioner, use premium a few days beforehand, and get an oil change and change the air filter a couple of days before the test.
If it fails, there's a limit of $400 they can make you spend. If it stills fails after that, you get a conditional pass. That's valid for 2 years and you can still drive your car just fine. But you can't sell your car as e-tested with a conditional sticker.
So, even if you fail, you won't have to buy a new car, but may have to spend $400. which sucks, but is better than a new car!

Just because the car is old doesn't mean it won't pass. We just got rid of a 1989 this past year, and it passed the emissions test with flying colors.
I'm sending

Try not to stress out too much- i'm sure it will be ok. I had a very acient car for the longest time (and it ran sooo well, that is until an F150 totaled it
) And it passed inspection every year- i'm sure your car will be ok

One more reason to love my diesel car. You drive in, leave the car running, the guy walks around the car and checks that no black smoke is coming out the tailpipe, signs the pass form and off you go!

Does this mean "we" have a birthday coming up soon? wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

If you get to read this before your test, another thing to do is drive the car around a bit to warm the engine up really well before the test.

If you get a chance, read this article on the 'success' of Drive Clean Ontario:
False Failures

What you should do is 'precondition' your car before the test. This means driving on the highway for a while before the test to really warm up your car. If you read the article, it goes into more detail.

We failed our first time, and then we 'preconditioned' the car. We passed. Drive Clean has shown to have a horrible failure rate and is showing more and more as a cash grab with no reliable testing methods.

Well, It failed

I tried everything they say to make the test run better..didn't work.

So, I am broke for Christmas and will have to spend probably $450 to get it repaired...

I am going to try the test again in a few weeks..hopefully it was a wrong reading and it passes...but if not..I will be
.

Thanks for the vibes anyways everyone.

From my research on it, it looks like a crock of crap. Some cars were tested 10 times in one day, and passed half and failed half. With no changes being made to them.

Good luck!

Awww, Natalie, I'm so sorry to hear that it failed
What was the reason that it failed?

Lots of hugs for you

They don't really tell you a reason..they can guess but there is no way to know for sure as the system is made up of so many components..Thats why there is a $450 limit for repairs then I can get a conditional pass for 2 years...basically the repair shop will just keep tweaking things on the cars until it reaches $450 in charges..then I take the test again..and if it still fails, I get a conditional pass. But thats after spending $450!!! Which I can't afford.

Also, I think it is scam too...last time 2 years ago, I got the test it failed, and I went to another shop and It passed the next day when I didn't do anything to the car...What a load of hooey!
