OK i have made a post to save these poor little kitties but this shelter is ludicrus and they arent even diagnosing there breeds right and listen to this
"The adoption fees are as follows: Adult cats $65.00 Kittens: $85.00 Purebred, or Purebred mixes: $125.00 "
That is copied from the site, if they are mixes doesnt that mean that they are not purbreeds, and I understnad the amounts because they are a shleter and everything but come on that is rediculous and they are a KILL Shleter, each animal has only a certain amount of days and they are making up breeds to get money, there was also not the other ones that are need to get saved now but ones that are there they have them as himalayians and they obviously arent adn they have a tuxedo long haired on there 2 times as different breeds, how can we address this?? This makes me so

I totally understand your frustration .

Although I think most groups try to be honest with adopters and might make some bad breed guesses at times, others confuse getting the animal exposure with getting an animal a home. You might want to consider if that might be the actual goal and not monetary gain, as most shelters spend more money on vetting their animals than they charge for the adoption fee. My sister recently told me that one shelter lists ALL their dogs on petfinder as Labradors- and outright admitted this on their (the shelters) site because dogs listed as Labradors supposedly get more hits being a popular breed.

While there are some people who might fall for this if they arenâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t looking for something specific or arenâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t familiar with the breed standard, a person who was only looking for a specific breed would likely take a look at the animal and leave. So it does the animal little favor and looks incredibly deceptive or unknowledgeable on the organizationâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s part. I firmly believe it can also reflect poorly on other shelters as well because then many people then believe that you canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t find "real" purebred animals in shelters. I can sympathize with shelter staff or volunteers who might feel this is a last ditch effort to save an animal at a high kill shelter, but they also need to realize the down side to their actions.

Please PM me the link to the shelter website. I'll investigate.

i cant pm but heres the petfinder for it and there is another one in ohio, i understand you want to get breeds so people will buy them but come on your chargin that much and your just saying that, that kind of makes me mad GRRR lol but heres the one,
http://search.petfinder.com/shelterS...ort=&preview=1
this stuff just makes me so mad, even i can tell some might be what they are but the others you can just tell you know what i mean so see what you find out, I cant understand why the humane society up here where i am is a no kill and a whole bunch of others are (I am happy that mine isnt a kill shleter we have a few out here) but it just makes me really sad that they do things like this, like i said earlier i understand that they are trying to make money but for what each animal has a certain amount of time and then they get euthanized

But i went on my craiglist where i had originally found this list and its not there anymore i was like o my where did it go ! Alot of people on the craiglists didnt have nice things to say about the shelter and the breeds lol thats why i looked and it just breaks my heart that there are 6 animals that have like 3 days to live

The Salem Humane Society dba Humane Society of Columbiana County (HSCC) is a non-profit organization which receives no county or city funding. Combined, local animal welfare organizations are receiving an average of 100 abandoned cats and kittens per week, with an average of just 10 adoptions per week. We do the best job we can with the resources available to us, but there are simply not enough homes for the high number of animals being born each and every day. Bluntly put, cats and kittens are euthanized in the tri-county area every day!
This is a very sad state of affairs. I would honestly be sympathetic towards them and try to find a way to reduce the number of cats that are coming in. They probably have so many mutt mixes that they are trying to encourage the adoption of those cats/kittens. People are often willing to pay more for what they perceive are a "mix" of something even if there is no way to guarentee that it has any of that breed in it.

I totally understand your frustration but unfortunately there are some shelters that use people's ignorance to entice them to adopting an animal that otherwise may not have a chance. While we may see that moggies are just as valuable as pets as a purebreed, and dislike the dishonesty in advertising, there are a lot of people who do value a purebreed or mix as more worth their money and love than moggies. While that seems to be more true in dogs than cats, I'm sure that the shelters who employ these techniques can give you some sort of documentation that (in their minds) justifies doing this. It really IS sad that the ignorant will be more likely to adopt a spotted tabby cat billed as a Bengal and be willing to pay more for it, but if that gets that spotted tabby a loving home where he may not have gotten one if just shown as a tabby, then so be it.
