Hello everyone!
I joined this site last month when my boy, Sebastian, broke his arm and then became sick.
Sebastian was 15 years old when we put him to rest. Marty is also 15 years old. The boys are related but we can not figure out what they are to each other so we call them brothers. Martys Grandfather is Sebastians father. I received Sebastian from my first husband when we were still dating. Marty came to me because I was told that no one wanted him. I later found out that he was studded first and then the breeder was done with him, so I took him. Marty is a mushyman. He loves to cuddle. Currently, he is grieveing the loss of his brother.
My husband found Crowe in the backyard right before Thanksgiving 2003. She was a little thing, but FULL of fight. We took her in and cared for her. After 4 months of her tormenting my boys and her attacking us, we had to find a new home for her. I left her over night at my mom's to give the boys a break from the abuse. It was love. My mom and Crowe fell in love. And, Crowe got a new home with lots of love. Crowe has a friend there named Taylor. Taylor is a 16 year old cranky girl who just wants to sit in the sun and be loved. They usually stay away from eachother. Crowe is my mom's cuddle buddy. We think that Crowe needed to be an only cat (yeah, I know that there is another cat in the house but Taylor does not bother with Crowe).
Simba's story is sad. We found her in the backyard {Cat's must know that we are one of them, so they come to us} I thought that she was lost because she was too little to be without her mommy. We watched her and took care of her outside, thinking that mommy would come back. After a week no mommy. We took her to the Vet who figured her age to be 3 weeks old. Two weeks later we went back to the vet for the routine follow-up care. Simba was still very small. The Vet took one look at her and told us that in her whole career she has only seen one other case like this. Simba had Hypothroidism. Simba was actually over 3 months old, not 3 weeks old. The vet needed to run some bloodwork before confirming the condition. It was a profound case of Hypothyroidism. We started Simba on the medication and cared for her. In one month she put on 2 ounces and still did not weight 1 pound. It was too late though. Simba died during the medication adjustments. She came into our hearts too late. We gave her love and the best life we could have asked for. She was too little to transport in a cat carrier so I used my daughter's "play" cat carrier. Her prognosis was not good to begin with, so I know she is playing over the rainbow bridge and guiding my Sebastian now.
I grew up with pets. I can NEVER imagine not having furbabies. We had a cat named Fee Fee. My sister got to make Fee Fee her cat becuase I was only 4 when we found him. Fee fee lived to be 16 years old and 11 months. He waiting for my sister to get up in the morning and he died in her arms. Our other cat was put to rest after lossing his fight with cancer. My parents stil have Taylor.
Currently, I have my Marty. I am a stay at home mom to a 5 year old. I used to be a Social Worker. I worked with the mentally Ill. I am orginally from Florida but moved to New York in 1997. I still call Florida my home.
I am very greatful to have this site.
