I know about cats knowing when you're sad or in pain and comforting you, but I'd like your thoughts on this:

last night I had bad abdominal pain and couldn't sleep. My kitten came to bed with me, spent 5 minutes staring at me and then came under the duvet, curled up right against my stomach and started to purr. She had never slept like that before. The heat and vibrations really helped with the pain.

So here's my question: do you think she knew? Or is that a bit far-fetched? She's not even 3 months old yet! Is it a coincidence?

Five weeks ago I had my gall bladder removed (abdominal surgery), and my cat "knew" to stay off my lap and simply laid by my side all the time until last week he just decided that I had healed enough and climbed back up on my lap again. There is no way that anybody anywhere can tell me this was "just a coincidence".

I have read about that. I actually read someones blog that had hurt her shoulder, her cat slept on her shoulder that night and had never slept like that before. She purred all night and the next morning her shoulder was like a new again.

In a state of misery w/o my Bella
I get ear aches all the time from allergies and my Bella would lay near my head and purr and my earache would go away. Also whenever I had kidney stones she would lay across that side of my body with the kidney stone! Obviously, I believe they know when we don't feel good, and they are natural healers.

They know. They know like some dogs know when you're going to have an epileptic seizure so well that they're trained like seeing-eye dogs, to stay with people and warn them in time to sit down (rather than fall) if they're going to have a seizure!

I most certainly agree that they know. I've had cats demonstrate this to me on more than one occasion over the years.

Deb,
I think she knew. Just like dogs who can tell when someone is going to have an asthma attack, or they can smell cancer. Cats are supposed to have even better smellers than dogs do. They would use them to sniff out drugs, etc. if they could be trained. LOL, cats do what they want to, so that would never work. Yes, I do think your kitten picked up on sounds in your stomach.

That was my Carly. She did something that 3 visits to the massage therapist couldn't do. First she stood on the sore spot for a few minutes (no kneading) and then laid down across my back. I have always been grateful for that.

I have heard of several cases of where the cat knew before the woman that she was pregnant. They really like hanging out around the tummy area
