I am agrophobic, and basically housebound - and I still have a cost of 1.5y. It's had to keep your personal cost down. I'll see if I can find a test you can do to figure out what you cost, and where you might be able to save.
You all are making really good points... I didn't even think about the social impact of having my heat so high. I'm turning it down to 68, and that is where it will stay for the winter.

I do agree with the majority, 82 is pretty warm. We have one of those programmable thermostats where we set the temperature at which we want the ac to kick on, and then another temperature where we want to the heat to kick on. The ac side is set to 75 and the heat side is set to 67. Sometimes it feels a little cool to me in the house during the winter. That is when I like to curl up with a fleece blanket and a cup of hot tea or hot chocolate

I noticed I was a little blunt in my comment (that is what happens when I post and run). I don't think you need to be freezing (which for me, 68 can be) - Just make sure that you are turning down the thermostat when you leave or at night when you're snuggling with DH and the kitties.

This is why I really like the programmable thermostats. I also keep the settings for the weekends on the low side since I forget to turn them down if we will be gone all day. I have to laugh at myself though when I've spent half the day freezing
and then remembered I could turn the thermostat up.

Oh I didn't see it as being blunt at all! It made me realize I was being a little selfish, and I should turn down the heat. No worries at all.

Hurrah! (It makes the kitties snuggle more too).

I am exactly the opposite! It is EASY for me to cool off when I'm hot, but once I'm cold and it gets in my bones, layers and layers and layers don't help me to get warm.

People keep telling me that I'm part lizard - I need a sunlamp and a heat rock, and I'll be happy. Please don't try to feed me bugs, though.

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I guess I would compromise....but I like it a little cooler myself. I'd keep it between 68-72 depending on how hot/cold it is outside, or if I'm running the oven....DH will turn it up when I'm not looking, it's like "the temperature wars"

It's the third one on the list that I am seeking opinions about. DH keeps turning down the heat, but I figure why bother? If youâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]re hot, go grab a t-shirt. Am I wrong for wanting to keep our tiny little place at 82, or should I conced and turn the heat down?
I would say keep the heat down because most likely the heat is just included in the rent and if the renters see a huge bill coming from it they will probably eventually raise the rent or just stop including the heat in your rent. I mean I wouldn't keep yourself uncomfortable but I would defintely consider the person paying it cause even if your not paying it someone else is.

We keep ours at 72 year round. But we live in a trailor and it doesn't have good installation so we have to hopefully when we get a house we can adjust it better. But when I worked third shift in the summer I had to turn the ac in my bedroom down a bit more just so I could sleep during the day. I can't sleep if I am hot in the least bit.

We have free heat too and keep it at about 70. Like Ginger's mom I have a very hard time warming up once I'm cold too. 70 is good unless it's really cold out then I grab a blanket and stick my cold toes on my fiance. LOL

Oh, and it's really not a good idea to turn it up and down (like when you leave or go to bed) because it's actually less efficient to warn the space back up than it is to maintain a temprature.

If the heat is free, I would find a middle temp and keep it on that.

82 would also be too warm for me...heat is included with my apartment, but the building controls it which is dicey cuz I have no control....they have to keep it at a min 78*...whatever its actually at in here, I keep my bedroom open about 6" 24/7, and its been freezing and snowy here in edmonton for 4 weeks!!!
