I have posted before about my process of introducing a new cat. Kaylie, the resident cat, still doesn't like the "intruder", but so far she has only growled and hissed at her. She hasn't attacked her, and they both seem to avoid each other as best as they can. However, she seems to have connected me with the new cat, and doesn't shy away from biting and attacking me. It is more than just a scent thing, because she doesn't do it to her "daddy", even if he just petted the other kitty.
Is there anything I can do, or do I just have to wait it out until she calms down? Whenever she lets me, I try to give her special attention, but I am getting jumpy around her myself, because I always have to be prepared for her claws and teeth.

Oh, and one more question, if you allow me
We have noticed that Kaylie somehow smells a little different ever since the new cat arrived. Is it just our imagination, or does it have to do with her feeling intruded by another cat?

Thanks-

Irene

Have you tried putting vanilla extract (real vanilla, not the imitation) on both cats' chins and near the base of their tails. And then put some vanilla on your wrists (that way you won't wash it off when you wash your hands).

Also, you may want to look into a Feliway diffuser to help calm Kaylie down.

Can you tell when she seems aggressive? Usually there is aa attitude that shows in thier physical behavior, tail swishing, ears slightly side, eyes, body stance. Just give her attitude back then, even talk to her "fine I did'nt want to pet you any way"...........Wait for her to approach you but still look for those signs of aggressiveness, its all a test. She is feeling intrusion and blaming it on you, and probably trying to get back at you by going to someone else, as she feels you have! Smart kitty! Try giving her a little attitude back, it just may work! You will know the difference in her approach..........

Hi- I am having similar issues- Ted 9, saw a stray passing by his window and took it out on very timid Simon 4, with whom he has a very compatible relationship. I have tried for 3 weeks to get them together- treats, toys, Feliway aromatics, switching rooms, with some success until Simon gets spooked by a sound, puffs up to which Ted puffs up and it starts all over again. Very upsetting. How are you doing?

possibly trying so many different things so soon and over a short time may cause more confusion? How long have they been together? And could there have been something else that happened around the same time? Not sure of details, could you fill me in more?
Hope you had a good turkey day!

Hi- No, previously they were very compatible- slept together, played games. I actually saw the incident, a cat came up to my sliding glass window where Ted was watching the bird feeder and puffed up. Simon came to see what was wrong and brushed up against the agitated Ted. I have some successes. I feed them together with no problem, Simon has initiated rubbing up against Ted and licking him. The whole scenario happens again when Simon hears (even a distant strange noise) or both return to the same spot where the original incident occurred. It has been about 3 weeks of slowing trying to reintroduce them. Do I just need more time??
