A customer peeve

Thread Starter
I've just had a customer come into reception to collect an order, and as i was walking towards her at the front desk i saw her pop something in her mouth to eat. Now from my desk to the front desk your only talking 6' if that?. So i'm standing like a lemon waiting for her to speak but she couldn't because her mouth was too full, but i just stood there looking at her until she finally swallowed it and apologised.

How stupid and ignorant is that to fill your face when you have to go and speak to someone, could she not have waited until she left because she was only here for 5 minutes. I hate it when people eat on the other end of the phone as well

That's so funny you mention that, Susan! They were having the same debate on the radio this morning!

Working in a call center, I'm always getting people eating on the phone, screaming at someone in the background, ordering at the drive-thru or using the bathroom.

I can understand that. I can't stand the sound of someone chewing or crunching on something. Absolutely turns my stomach. Ugh!

That is dumb on her part...........

Mine too - it drives me bonkers, and I don't think so much as 1 phone call in the last six years has been food free. It's a little extra annoying to pay international rates to hear her crew!

I'm 100% the same way - it makes my skin crawl!

Okay, yes, but if you are so ill-natured as to call me on my lunchbreak, I will eat on the phone with you. I will let you know that I'm on my lunchbreak, though, so you don't wonder.

Euw.. in the bathroom? i have only ever talked to my mum in the restroom because she wouldn't get off the phone and i had to go. It was that or hang up on her or pee myself :ohdear:

My family and friends are really weird...they constantly phone me or continue to talk to me while they are on the john or in the bathtub or eating.

What I find even more rude is as a customer I am greeted by someone who is chewing and smacking on their gum, or talking on the phone ignoring me while I'm standing there.

Yup, my sister goes to the bathroom when she's on the phone with me...but usually we're on for an hour+ so at some point we both gotta go!

I just don't flush while on the phone.

But back to rosiemac's story, yes, if you're there 5 minutes you don't need anything in your mouth unless you're sick and dehydrated. In which case you probably should be home in bed...

Well Susan if it made you feel better that is all that counts By the way it is rude Or if they start a bite then start talking then put more in there then you get to wait again

We get people calling our unit (labor & delivery) to ask a question, and I can hardly hear them with the television blaring in the background, or people talking in the background. My favorite? I've been put on hold by people who have called asking about a problem!!!

So, I'd like to say that I'm surprised that this customer put food in her mouth just before she needed to speak with you, but I'm not.

Cellphones. Cellphones are the bane of my exsistence.

I used to work at a major electronics store and sometimes I would be checking people out and they'd be on the stupid phone and I would need to tell them something and they wouldn't shut up so I just started yelling over them. Extremely effective. And the conversations these people would have! Oy! Do we need to hear about your enema?? NO. I know it's been said before but keep private PRIVATE, dummies and respect people that you're WITH.

Just no respect.

lol i hate people eating chips on the phone , or being put on speaker phone.

My mother always goes to the washroom while on the phone. The thing is you don't know it till she flushes!!

I had a friend call me while in the bath... I could hear him splashing in the background... so sick!

I sometimes eat while on the phone but that is about it. And even then I rarely do that because I don't like people hearing me crunching on dinner or whatever.

Wow Im surprised people get so annoyed with stuff like that. I meen much worse could happen then someone using the jon while on the phone or worse yet chewing as you are trying to help them. I honestly don't see the big deal. I will use the bathroom once in awhile when im on the phone. If you have to go you have to go. Now usually I'll just wait to flush just not to make the person feel awkward unless its a close friend or something if they hate me for it then their not really a friend at all anyway. Now talking while being checked out I find it annoying but not ride and very uncalled for for the service person to be rude to them for it.
I do hate it though when I get a call at work from someone asking assitance then they put the phone down to talk to a friend about some stupid issue or make another call on their cell phone as Im helping them, but there is not much I can do I am there to serve them not the other way around.
