That's a great idea you had. I've been in Italy once, and was amazed at how well cats are treated, so much so that they're not afraid when strangers approach them in the street. I noticed people walking up to cats that were sitting on a low fence or the church steps and scratched his/her chin, just like that. My love and respect of Italy went up several notches when I saw this.

My parents went last month as well. They said there is a cat sanctuary in the middle of the town they stayed in. I think Rome? My dad took pics of it and there were cats EVERYWHERE! They are protected there also. People come by like 3 times a day to feed them and they all are vetted
