Hi,
We are getting ready to move this weekend. I need some advice on the best way to approach placing 3 cats together that come from 2 different apartments.

Right now one apt has 2 female (fixed) cats that are about 3 or 4 years old. The other apt has one male (fixed) cat that is about 1.5 years old. We are moving into a completely new apartment that none of the animals has ever lived in. The new apartment is almost twice the size of the old one.

My fear is that the cats will start marking territory with urine or fighting. Another fear is that my one female will develop fatty liver, it happened last move 3 years ago. (The difference with the female this move is that she will be moving with another cat and human she knows. Last time I ended up taking her in after my sister had to move out of state.)

How do I go about introducing these animals while making it the easiest I can on them? Thanks so much! Worried, Carla

The best way I've found to introduce new cats to each other is to put them each in their own crate, carrier, portable carrier, whatever you have, (if your 2 girls get along well, you can put both of them in the same carrier, if it's big enough to hold both of them comfortably) then put the carriers facing each other, door to door(s), until the cats stop freaking out and growling/hissing at each other. After they've calmed down it'll still take a little bit for them to get used to each other, but they should be a little more sane.
