I've never had this issue with the Wonner before, but we just bought a really nice executive's leather swivel desk chair. it's walnut and leather - we got it at a good price at a liquidation sale. Anyway it's just really nice. Now, my old fabric desk chair, Wonton used to scratch on, and I never really bothered to tell him not to, cos it was an old crappy chair...and yes, of course I'm paying for that now, becuase in his little kitty mind, he's thinking well - I got to claw the old chair, why not the new one? Which is entirely reasonable but - I need to teach him not to do this now. So... I need help. He has a scratching post/cat tree made otu of carpet-covered wood, but the carpet at the base where he scratches is all gone - he needs a new one, which I'll be buying in the next couple weeks. But is there something I can spray on the chair, which won't hurt the wood or the leather, but'll make him not want to go near it to scratch?

any help appreciated

You can start making him wear soft claws - other than that, I have no suggestions.

My leather executive chair is now beautifully "decorated" by scratches from both my kitties. I've accepted their gift of home "improvement."

I have a leather couch that my sweet angels used as a scratching post, too. I put a big tall cat statue by it and they stopped using it.
I can post pics if you like.

I once had an expert in leather explain to me that little scratches and such in really good leather meant that the individual leather had "character". Well, the leather chair that I am sitting on right now has plenty of this character and all thanks to the character sitting next to me right now in my chair.

yeah I"d love to see a pic, thanks

Today I bought him a brand new scratching post. brought it home, set it down, he walked up to it, gave it a cautious sniff, and then started scratching it
so I'm happy for that. also got this mat that's got little sharp plastic nubs sticking up-cats arent supposed to like to walk on it, so I was told to put it near the chair. Will try that later tonight. Everything else at the pet store said "caution, do not use on leather" (sprays to keep cats away, ect).

more suggestions welcome, and thanks for the comments about scratches being character
I wish I could think that way, but the chair is brand new, so I want to keep it looking nice for a littlel while at least

oh maybe you need to lure you cat to your scratch post by putting catnip or get another type of scratch post. Like my Maya Karin, when I got ther the vertical scratch post type, she do it 20% on the post and 80% on other furniture. When I get this horizontal type of scratcher, she do it 95% on the scratcher and only saldomly she do it at this particular carpet in front of the tv. This is my cat.. result may vary
