I rescued a Scottish Fold from under a house 1 day before Columbus Day. I took him into my Vet the very next day and they felt "Scottie alias Gus"had a kidney infection. We started Clavimox while I searched for the owner. After 10 days, I was back at my Vet's office rechecking the lab work. My vet stated the lab work still wasn't right and he took an x-ray which showed kidney stones in the tubes. That very next day I was at our local shelter and posted on the wall was "Gus". I contacted the owner and we reunited cat and family. Gus had been gone 85 days and I rescued him approximately 5 blocks from their own home. They were thrilled!! He had been a poster kittie for their Vet and was a much loved pet. The owners took him to their vet and Gus continued to fail. They did fluids for 1 week and 3 days of subcutanous fluids. As of today, the creatine level has gone up initiialy when I found him from 1 to 3 now 6. Gus is very anemic. Their Vet feels they do not have the equipment nor the expertise to do the surgery. I asked my Vet his feelings and he had offered previously his clinic/equipment if they wished to attempt the surgery. He would also "scrub" in. The smallest animal he had ever done was a miniture schnauzer. The stones are not the kind that will disolve with medication. At this point nothing further can be done for Gus which is very sad after everything he has been through the 85 days. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. The owners are awesome people and at this time feel there are no options.

I am very sorry about Gus and am glad he was reunited with his owners. I will mention though that my nephew's cat also had kidney stones and they were easily removed. That was about 6yrs. ago and his cat is doing fine. He does have to stay on a special diet now. I think I would consider finding another vet even if it's in another town or even at a vet school hospital. I hope things work out okay for Gus.

Cathy:

Do you know if the kidney stones were down in the tubes vs in the kidneys?

They were in the tubes. It was an expensive surgery. I believe it was about $1500.00 and a regular vet did it. Are there any surgeons he could be referred to just to see if they feel surgery is an option?

I would also recommend the vet refer the cat to a vet that is capable of performing the surgery.
