Hey John, I have a question about goats and dogs.

Any idea why the heck my new Siberian Husky just LOVES to go to the neighbors and check them out?
He is fascinated by them, and two of the three could care less about him jumping around and yapping at them. The third one will actually tolerate him for a bit, then gets ill and starts butting the fence after him!
Their owners also have a part Husky, and she does the same thing as ours!

They are pretty small goats, look a lot like the ones in your siggy.

Thanks!

I thought that too, but the other dogs (not Huskies) don't even bat an eye at them... I wondered if there was something that might attract them...

Probably because they have no idea what they are but think that they must be some awful funny looking dogs.
Mine were always like that when I first brought them home but the dogs learned quickly that they arent anything to interesting and if they got to nosey they would get a major headache.
They learned to be fairly calm around the goats and the goats didnt mind them because they were rtaised around dogs. Soo I would say the dogs are just getting a wee bit exited and are justwanting to play with them.

Huskies are pretty prey driven dogs riht? If so I would be careful especially if the goats are small. I only have 1 small one Shashi she weighs 35 lbs top. A big dog could hurt her in 2 seconds. Nalini weighs around 75 lbs and Acacia is 53 lbs. And they could be taken down. I usually just kept the dogs on leash with me in the pen for a while until they pretty much ignored the goats when I went in there.

Thanks John! Just wasn't sure about what kind of interaction goats and dogs had, maybe they just wanna be friends.

These are about as big as the dog, and fenced in as well, so I don't think we'll be doing any preying anytime soon.

I remember having goats....but they all thought they were dogs

Went to a livestock auction in hopes of getting chickens, ended up falling in love with 26 Nubian bottle babies and bringing them all home, talk about work!

Well some can be friends. I used to have goats in the dog piles. Lola loved the goats and she spent most of her time with them over the other dogs. But C-more hated them and even though he was around goats his whole life he would still yap and yap and bite at them when he was around them. They would just look at him like what are you doing you little rat. So it really depends on the goats personality and the dogs personality. They can be very good friends. A friend of mine had 2 boxers and a goat and then goat would chase every one and everything away from his girls. He would attack you.

WOW 26! That is alot of work. I thought 2 at a time was hard enough. And Acacia was only bottlefed about a week after I got her. Nalini was longer. And I thought I was going to die they wanted soooo much attention all the time. Poor Shashi got tired of them trying to nurse when she had nothing there.

Most were bucks, which was why they were there, a couple were very sickly does.
Happily all 26 survived and all but 5 were adopted out as pets once they were weaned.
We kept 5 does for grass/brush control/pets.

Wow! That's really neat.

I love goats. I can't wait til we have a place of our own - definately getting goats (but, probably, like 2!)
