I didn't know Canada did their own thing today.
Wonderful...thank you for posting this. I honor the memory of my dad (post ww II navy), my husband(Desert Storm) and 2 brother-in-laws (1 Desert Storm, 1 - Bosnia and current Iraq war), and all those I do not know.
Oh yes. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we all have a minute of silence to honour those who have served their country. Every town has a ceremony, with the biggest being in Ottawa, where everyone lays their poppies on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Parliament Hill after the ceremony. It's extremely moving! And every school child in the country learns "In Flanders Fields" which was written by a Canadian.Originally Posted by neetanddave

How wonderful! And in Canada, the tradition of wearing a poppy still thrives! We all wear poppies for the days leading up to Remembrance Day and then those of us that attend ceremonies lay them on the memorial after the ceremony!
I'd like to add my thanks to all who serve and have served.
I am extreemly proud of my husband, parents, siblings, cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc. I'm proud to say I come from a family who serves.

The VFW here sells poppies every Veterans Day in the small towns. For a small donation, you get a little paper mache' corsage. Well worth it.
