Litter tray advice...

I get my kitten on Sunday (yay!)

I noticed at the breeders house they have a 'stacker box' as a litter tray, which I think is a great idea!

However, I had already bought the kitty a rimmed litter tray. Should I just opt for one of these boxes?

I don't know how you keep those 'self cleaning litterboxes' or 'stacking' models clean.

Regular scooping is sufficient, and an ordinary cat box should be fine. The crucial thing is what type of litter you use.

I will be using 'worlds best cat litter' as recommended by the breeder.

Once the cat is a little older, I may change as this litter is very pricey!

I'd try a covered tray - they really help with the amount of mess (and smell!) provided kitty accepts it. I've not had a problem with any of mine. When I got my first 2 kittens (8 weeks old) I used a large tray without the hood for a couple of weeks, then put the hood (with door) on and they had no problem with it. Mosi was 14 weeks when I got him and he used it covered from day 1. Jaffa used the tray last night when I was cleaning it and I thought he was going to dig through to Australia. He scattered litter all over the carpet. It made me grateful that I have a covered tray.

Thanks for the advice. I may just get one of these plastic boxes, I was amazed at them using it, without any problem, I'm scared the litter tray I have the now just isn't deep enough.

When I'm in the pet shop, I'll get a wee look at this covered tray too though, might just be the best idea...

If you are using the litter the breeder recommended, the cat should be okay since it's already using it. Most cats care more about the litter than the box.
Gizmo uses an open one, and I've never gotten a covered one since she (a) does not smell much and not at all after she buries the poo; and (b) she probably prefers open due to her habit of wiping her paws vigourously on the top of the pan afterward.

I haven't used World's Best - I may try it next time - but I can say that a better quality litter pays for itself many times over.
