Dear Tortie:

Well, it's all to the good -- every one who is spayed/neutered is healthier, happier, and represents thousands of lives saved! And you may be right -- a lot of people are having a tough time now, and any savings is good. Though anyone who wouldn't adopt simply because they don't want to pay for necessary medical care would NOT be a candidate for an adopter, in my book.

Well, I mean, if I was wanting to adopt a cat and didn't know about the costs of spaying/neutering and I found out before I got a cat, then I think it might influence my decision to adopt because it's alot of money. Anyways, I think that it would take alot of stress of someone to know that they can put that money toward buying food and supplies for the cat and having more in their pocket. As I always say...it can never hurt to save money! LOL!

True, true! Although there are low-and-no-cost spay/neuter incentives offered all over the nation. But I'd like to spend more on getting my cats toys, furniture, food, and treats, too!

LOL!
Don't we all...Don't we all!

Like I said earlier, I work at Petsmart...I see some people come in and spend $100 on toys and treats just because it's their pet's birthday! I wish I had $100! I would go out to eat with my hubby at a nice restaurant(We've only done that once during our marriage because we can't afford it...sniffle,sniffle
) Of course, we would stop by the pet store and pick up some cat treats with any leftover money!LOL!

YEAH. AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT!!!
King Nicolas I definitely rules this roost. His henchmen, Calo the Magnificent and Samuda the Tigerrific, hold down the fort. And their crew, Rani the Ripper, Sishya the Slasher, Tarifa the Tearer, Maryam the Mangler, Sahra the Soft (but deceptively so!), and Suha the Terrible a/k/a The Bitemouth Kitten make sure that NOTHING gets by 'em! Whether it's a lizard in the living room or a mouse in the kitchen, they all have to pay the purrer, er, the piper! And as for funding, well, let's just say the buck definitely stops right where it should -- smack dab in front of the Royal Feline Committee! Ka-CHING!

Oh my! It sounds like You are the pet and THEY are the owners!!! LOL!

I believe it's kittykiya's siggy that says the cats know they were worshipped as gods in Egypt and haven't forgotten it! LOL! Too true, too true!

...well, the issue of "owning" living beings is a thorny one for me, as that is in my background and I'm sensitive to it. And I don't believe anyone should "own" anyone else. "Pets"? Naw! "Companion animals", absolutely!

I like to think of us as equals of different species. Family members.

THEY, on the other hand, think of themselves as definitely being sacred, and of me as being their devoted servant.

Wouldn't have it any other way.

When my mom gave the kitten to her she didn't even have permission to have it yet. -_- Shes never had a cat before and I'm worried about the kitten as this girl has 11 brothers and sisters. I just really want my kitten back. ;_;

Dear Catzeye:

You're right to be concerned. I would be too! Is there any way you can talk to her, and to your folks, letting them know you really want her and will care for her well and love her?

No. ='( They just got me a new show cavy and they had already said no more pets BEFORE I got that cavy so now they are going to be even more strict.

He makes us all, and He gave you the heart that cares for His creatures
Who are you to disagree with a Higher Power?
I agree. All of ours were hard-luck stories; in fact, every pet I've ever had was one; I really believe that God sends them to those who can care for them. It's to the point that I can't even think of getting a cat from a breeder; I want to take in all of the homeless cats, and I know there will be more sent my way (although, now with FeLv in the house, actual fostering is out of the question for about a year or so).

Good luck!

Dear MargeCat:

May you be many times blessed for caring about homeless cats like you do, and for taking them in when they come to you. We're like that, too -- all 9 of our current family are rescues, and I'm the same way. No breeders for us! Not while cats go homeless and lose their precious lives in their millions annually due to human apathy, callousness, and ignorance. So again, THANK YOU!

Hi Tarasgirl,

Thank you! Your comments made me feel a bit better--this holiday started out rotten (you may have seen my post about finding out that 2 more of my guys are FeLv positive--just before Christmas, too). I strongly believe in not creating more cat lives when there are so many languishing in shelters, waiting to die, in some cases. As much as I get tempted to get a purebred Maine Coon or Aby, I just can't--I know there's a hardship case waiting for my love! I'd only get a certain breed from a rescue that specializes in that breed--but even then, I probably would take the one who needs love the most, stupid sucker that hubby and I are! :-).

Have a wonderful, happy and healthy New Year!

Dear MargeCat and Family:

We must be sisters. I was born to serve cats, too.

You CAN get a "purebred" Maine Coon or Aby -- or both. Shelters are FULL of "purebred" cats. Many of them die for want of good homes. Cat "euthanasias" are at record numbers right now. I know this because I have friends who WORK in shelters and in "pulling" cats off the euth lists to rescue. Let your local shelter know who you are looking for in terms of "breed", or contact an organization such as http://www.bestfriends.org, or Google (your breed)rescue organizations in (your locality) and you will probably be astounded at what you come up with. If not, you may want to join a Yahoo rescue group such as their Senior Cat Rescue Group at http://pets.group.yahoo.com/Senior-Cat-Rescue/ (they also have a non-age-specific cat rescue which I think is the same address without the "Senior") and you will probably find someone who can direct you to links of breed-specific rescues -- maybe even in your area.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being compassionate. Quite the opposite, in fact!

And I'm so sorry to hear about your two guys; but it is NOT the gloom-and-doom picture often painted. Cats can still have quality of life and share lots of love with this and other health issues. So don't give up!
