Some 53 year old man(who shall remain nameless) just walked his soot covered boots all over my house!!!!
Now, there's sooty foot prints on the linoleum, so I have to log off TCS to go vacuum & mop the kitchen. Here's my big question....how do I get soot out of beige carpet? I have a feeling it's gonna take me awhile....

Aww! How sooty of him to do that!

Resolve works well. My dad did the same thing to my mom when we lived in Ky

I would carefully use the crevice tool attachment of your vaccuum. You don't want to smear it around. Then see what it looks like after that.

You hand him a vacum and some cleaning products and let him go. I bet he won't track it in again!

You may want to have your carpet professionally cleaned. I work for a carpet cleaning company who specializes in water and fire damage restoration. I wish I could recommend a cleaning agent, but we are a franchise and use only products from our corporation. I do want to caution you against using the over-the-counter spot cleaners. We have cleaned carpet after a customer has used one of those products and found that (depending on the carpet) it CAN cause the spot to bleach out.

Here are instructions:

It sounds like a whole lot of work if it's more than one spot. So my advice would be to hire professional cleaners to come in. In the meantime I would suggest covering the areas with something and avoiding walking on them so that the soot doesn't get ground in even more.

Wow - that can really make a mess! I would get a professional cleaner - and make him pay for it!

When Petunia (RIP) was with me, she became fascinated with the fireplace. I heard something so with the cat in my lap, I opened the flue. Down came a bird so I had a cat covered in soot, a bird flying around my house, and light blue carpet.

I vacuumed but ended up with a professional coming in to finish the job.

Hey! You can use this to your advantage....tell him there's no way to get it out and go out and pick out some beautiful new carpeting
. In fact - why stop at the carpet....is there new furniture you want? I bet the soot got on that too. How about new linoleum? It definitely got on that.
Gotta let these things work for you - not against you when it comes to ignorant men!

Well... the other day Chad tracked a bunch of mud clumps all throughout the house. So this morning when I got out of the shower and started stepping on little mudpies I decided HE was going to sweep the bathroom!!!!!

He did it tonight but I swear he acted like a 15 year old being forced to do a chore

I'd say you should make him do it but if he is anything like Chad he'd probably make it worse.... so not a good idea!

Wish I had advice for ya but I haven't run into that situation yet!

I should prolly mention he's my dad & paying all my bills.
I just left the spots. I figure he made the mess, he can either:
a)clean it up
b)buy new carpet

I guess I just don't care. I spent forever cleaning the limoleum where he left sooty prints...only to have the poo-head walk in with muddy boots on!
Seriously...how has my mom not killed him by now?

Although...you guys do have a point. I really want to adopt this white cat that's deaf in one ear....she'd be my first odd-eyed deaf white cat....
