Hi! I'm Amy, and as my nick implies, the mom of many cats. I'm 43, married for 13 years to Steve and no human kids. I was born and lived in Chicago for 30 years, then in Houston for a few years and now south of Kansas City for the last 11 years. I'm the youngest sibling of 5 and husband is one of 8 so we have large extended familes. My father passed away in 1986 and mom in 2000 and now struggle to keep close to my family.
I have worked in information systems for 24 years, working up from a junior programmer flunky to general manager over projects with 500+ people. Currently in the telecommunications industry. Even though I've been in information systems so long, I am still technology impaired - I only organize the work, don't do it any longer.
In my spare time, I do a lot of crafts - sewing, flower arranging, needlecrafts, cookbook making, calendar making. Also love to cook, read, surf the net, fix up my 100 year old house, gardening, etc.
A lot of my time is obviously devoted to my furbabies. We lost the last of our 5 dogs in January and am just biding time before we save another (one or two) dog(s). I have just started volunteering for a local no-kill rescue organization (www.helppets.org
) and have already organized an adoption clinic at a senior center, am pulling together donated supplies to make cat trees and have become the personal pet adoption counselor to folks at work. I think I will do best at event planning.
I live in the country and am one of a handful of folks out here that are trying to take care of the ferals in the neighborhood - I'm fortunate in that most of the neighbors love animals. I TNR when I can, and socialize and adopt them out if possible. I've hand weaned 2 orphaned litters (from 3 weeks and from 10 days) and have kept 3 out of the 7 kittens from those litters (Scarlett, Muddy and Koko). We've also found homes (or owners) for a number of wandering dogs in the neighborhood.
I won't go on about my cats, as you all hear about them in the other threads. Needless to say, they keep me sane and I love them to pieces!!
