I am helping 2 other cat-lovers where I live to start a TNR
I am really excited and looking forward to getting started.........this will be the 1st one in the area !!
So we are hoping for good results, as we know of other areas that have ferals !

I´ve read all the links, advice etc here and its been very, very helpful to get an understanding of whats involved.

This is where we are up to..............

It is a small colony of ferals - about 9 (now) - they are fairly socialised, as the colony is on a housing development and the cats see & interact with humans fairly regularly. We have even managed to get 2 re-homed in the past !

Traps sourced and in transit from the UK - one advisor may come to Spain to talk with our vet (not yet selected) about surgery - here in Spain they do full removal of female reproductive organs, this usually means a large wound (about 4in) which of course can be a major problem for recovery of ferals ! Hopefully the advisor can persuede about ovary removal only.

Local vets contacted re: discounted fees for operations - struggling with this one a bit.

Local free-paper contacted about doing a report for us !

Fund rasing activities discussed - one planned !

We are going to do a door-to-door visit to help with funds, so I am looking forward to that - little worried about the non-cat lovers but hopefully we can explain to them that this is about keeping the numbers down and therefore its got to be better for all involved !! I am sure some wont even talk to us, but well I´ll be ready for that and will just move on !

Fingers Crossed !!

Well, they say there is no such thing as a stupid question. What is a TNR?

TNR...trap, neuter, return:

TNR is a comprehensive plan where entire feral colonies are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and neutered by veterinarians. Kittens and cats that are tame enough to be adopted are placed in good homes. Adult cats are returned to their familiar habitat to live out their lives under the watchful care of sympathetic neighborhood volunteers.

TNR works. Cat populations are gradually reduced. Nuisance behaviors associated with breeding, such as the yowling of females or the spraying of toms, are virtually eliminated. Disease and malnutrition are greatly reduced. The cats live healthy, safe, and peaceful lives in their territories

You can learn more about it here:

mooficat..how WONDERFUL for you. Imagine the difference you can make for these cats!!

Here is some information to give to your vet:

I, for one, am very, very proud of you. When I trapped my ferals, I got the information here, but I was alone. At least you will have some friends and of course, you always know that you can come to this site for questions or concerns.

It will seem scary at first, but keep in mind that you are doing a wonderfully loving thing for these cats.

Proud, so very proud headbuts and aren't we special licks from KittenKiya's Clan.

You're doing a wonderful thing!

Please keep up the updates!

And... there are LOTS of great sites and resources out there. valanhb and okeefecl from TCS and I worked to put together a kind of clearing house of information together - the site has gathered info from all over the web and provides links to all kinds of info on TNR issues, advocacy and projects.... http://www.StrayPetAdvocacy.org

Thanks Laurie.....I have emailed the links to the main project leader and she´s real impressed...........she doesnt have access at home, so can only check now and then when she calls in the local internet shop (well local - 20mins away - the joys of living in Spain !!) So I have now a huge fat wallet with lots of printouts in !!

The latest is, Paula (leader) is discussing with this UK vet/advisor about coming over to speak with vet(s) here about surgery (ovary only removal) Oh and we are preparing some collection jars to be placed at a Xmas fair - so hopefully more dosh on the way

It is slow, but some things are happening and at least we will be able to care for this bunch soon !!

BTW - feel free to shoot over any good links you find for TNR-related info.
We're really light on links to anything that's non-North American.

Good luck raising money at the fair!!!
