I'm watching it on CNN right now. My gut reaction: this is odd timing. Perhaps he didn't want to be caught up in some investigations when the Democrats take office.

My opinion: the man is evil and should have done this a long time ago!

Good! About time!

I go to the National Rifle Matches every year where we see the military teams. Over the years, we've gotten to know some and some have come through our state team and gone on to national military teams. Anyway, the point is that in talking with men who had served in Iraq, who are active military - none of them liked or respected Rummy. They may agree with why we're there, are proud of serving at home and in Iraq, but they don't like him or his policies.

I think that Pelosi and the Dems were going to push for him to go. Bush is just cutting his losses.

Dr. Gates is president of my school, Texas A&M University. I think he's a good guy, the reaction from the students to his leaving is quite impressive. I once almost sat at a table with him. I put my stuff down at a table, went to the lunch line, came back, and there was this old guy sitting at my table. So I moved my stuff over with some friends, sat down, and said "This old guy took my table!" They looked over and said "Hey, that's President Gates! I hear he likes to sit with the students and chat sometimes." Makes me wish I had stayed and talked to him!

Well I'm a republican and all I have to say is that I am soooooooo glad to see him leave!!!! I didn't like him at all! His replacement seems like a good guy so i'm excited to see what kind of positive changes he can bring to our country I'm glad Rumsfeld is gone I honestly didn't know a single person from eithor party who liked him or approved of his policies.
