Hi,
I'm a brand new member and have problems with my cats. I used to have only one 2 year old female cat. A few weeks ago another kitty showed up in the backyard and seemed to live in the shed. I put some food out for her, because she was always around and seemed lost. Two days ago I was able to bring her in. I think she is about one year old. She is very friendly, so I thought she might have an owner, but a scan for the mircochip thingy came up with nothing. She is also not fixed. I want to keep her, but my other cat DISAGREES! She hates her, and is very, very unhappy. She wants out all the time, even in the rain, just because her home is so threatening to her now. She hisses and growls even at us.
I have the new cat in a separate room, but every time I try to just let the old kitty see the "intruder" all hell breaks lose. The people at the vet told me that it might improve after she has her operation, and that it is an "estrogen thing" right now. Can I really hope that this is true and the older kitty will be able to tolerate her? I feel so bad for her, because she is clearly scared and unhappy, but I also can't just put the new one back out into the cold.
Any tips would be very appreciated.
Thank you already
I'm looking forward to getting to know this forum better too and will post a little intro soon.

Welcome to TCS!

How wonderful of you to take in a stray.
Have a look at this article; it gives great tips on how to introduce her to your resident kitty. Good luck!
