Well, for what it is worth, I am back from the doctors. Don't get me wrong, he is a very nice guy. We got some blood work done and he wants me to get my right knee x-rayed, because of the pain and swelling. I really do appreciate that.

However: (isn't there always a "however" or a "but"?)

He explained to me that probably I have arthritis in my knees ( like I didn't know that already) and bursitis in the shoulder. (That I didn't know) I had explained to him that I had been unable to sleep well with the shoulder pain for better than two weeks, and interrupted sleep for the better part of two years because of the knee pain.

He told me that he would put me on some stuff....God only knows what the name of it was, and he very deftly belted a few keys on his computer and told me that the prescription was at Walgreens already.

I asked him for a script to get the rest of the week off. Remember now, I have been in unrelenting pain for two weeks. The man says to me, "Oh, I can't do that, not the rest of the week. This is only arthritis. I couldn't justify that." and walked out the door.

The nurse came in to take the blood, handed me some paperwork explainiing where I needed to go for the x-ray, no follow-up appointment, and have a nice day.

Normally I maintain better control of myself, but by that time I was seeing red. I got the impression that the doctor thought that I was just one of those old, fat broads (apologies to old, fat broads) that come in with all kinds of complaints, and I have to tell you all, I was angry.

I went home. Sat in the house for about 1/2 hour and decided to call Walgreens. They kept me on the line for 20 minutes. I hung up. (I threw the phone across the bedroom). One of my neighbors stopped by and said that they had just been to Walgreesn and NO ONE was in line for prescriptions. I said "OK", got into my car and drove down. There were two people in line, no biggie ( internally I am still fuming) and got to the counter and explained that I was just at the doctor's office and he said that he sent a prescription down to Walgreens for me. You know they couldn't find it.

I went outside, called the office, "Oh yes, we sent it down there, but it takes 2 or 3 hours for it to reach Walgreens." By ((*&^^%&^(^^&^& computer?????????? It would have been easier if the man had given me a writen script, I'd have had the meds in 25 minutes, tops.

So here I sit, hurting, angry, no meds, fuming, pissed, oh and by the way, I spent $10 for the priviledge. (my co-pay). I could understand it if I was at the doctors office every other week. I have had this doctor on my plan for two years and he has seen me twice. AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH and this time it is not Tammy-Timmy!!!!!!!

Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m an old fat broad who has arthritis. My advice would be to find a better doctor. One who will refer you to a rheumatologist.

Not only do you need to fix the pain you have now you need to keep the rest of your joints from joining the party.

That doctor is STUPID! I have RA and there is plenty they can give you. Even if it isnt RA you dont need to live in pain. Go to a different doctor.

Movin' on up!
I live in Tucson, too and have osteoarthritis. Don't have a rheumatologist but I DO have a good osteopath - if you want his name PM me and I'll give it to you. Incidentally, ThermaCare patches work wonders on MY arthritic shoulder and back. My ex-s/o used them on his shot-up knee and loved them, too.

It sounds like you're very unhappy with your doctor- I would look into switching doctors sweetie.
you shouldn't have to suffer.

Your doctor is an idiot - switch. A doctor should NEVER trivialise a patients pain - they have no idea what you're going through!

And yet they do, all the time. And heaven forbid you question a doctor about anything.
doctors have to earn the respect the expect to get automatically from everyone. Unfortunately, round here, there aren't enough doctors, so it's impossible to keep looking till you find a good one.
KittenKiya, I really hope you find a better doctor/specialist and get some relief at last from this pain.

OK, on my second cup of coffee. This is what I will do. I am going to have my right knee x-rayed this morning. (Another comment made yesterday by the doctor: Since both knees hurt, and what is happening in one is usually happening in the other, we will only x-ray one knee. Which one is the worst?) Of course, the question is, what if something ELSE is happening in the left knee? They won't find out about it until much later.

Oh well, x-rays this morning. Then I am calling my provider to see if I need a referral from smartie to go to a rheumatologist or DO. If I don't all is well, I will make my own appointment. If I do......then I think I will tell them what happened yesterday and see if they will help me find a rheumatologist or DO that can help deal with the pain and swelling.

I called into work today and explained that smartie only gave me until tomorrow on the script, and they said "never mind, we'll see you Monday."

At least I can now get some rest. Thank you all for your support and help. Those who deal with unrelenting pain and swelling, not being able to walk right, can't pick this up or that up.....know right where I am at, but I won't take this lying down.

By the way, I had planned to sleep in till 8:30 or so. Tammy-Timmy opened the bedroom door and let all the cats in. Guess who got up early????

AAALLLL Righty Then......back from x-rays.

They were smart people there. They took one shot of BOTH knees then concentrated on the right one because that is the worst of the two. I was concerned about the amount of swelling and if they could get a good picture, but not to worry, everything came out clear.

Stopped at Walgreens.....YES......after 12 hours the prescription was there!!!!! The pharmacist explained the drug to me and the side effect (God almighty) and I just looked at him and said, "Honey, I don't care if I glow in the dark, just so long as the pain stops." He did look at me rather funny, but didn't call the cops.

So....I am safely home, one pill down my gut, and also found out that I do NOT have to get a referral from smartie to go see a specialist. I will hunt down the website and find out who is on the provider list and start calling.

Thank you all again for your kind words and helpful thoughts. Now if Tammy-Timmy would just get off the ceiling, I could go take a nap.

Goodness gracious, what an ordeal that turkey has subjected you to!!
I hope you find the practitioner -- of whatever stripe -- who will take you seriously and help you find relief. And in the meantime, I'm glad your employer was decent about the time!

Thank you all again. I have to tell you that last night was the first pain-free night I have had in two years.

I don't even know what I feel like this morning, this hasn't happened for so long........I am afraid to say it but.......I almost feel GOOD!!!!! Oh, that is so scary.
