Hi

I have a female Red Point Himalayan called Meeka. I had her desexed at 6months of age. I have read that when a colour point hair's is shaved it will turn the colour of her points and should go back to it's original colour once the hair has grown out. As she was shaved on the back after the desexing, the hair turned red in that patch and still after 4months of growth and nearly back to it's original length, the patch is still red. Will this change back to her original white colour on her back?

Thank's for your help!

Probably not, I've heard it can happen to pointed cats. Not sure if you really can get it to turn back more white.

I had a similar query which I put to my vet when we had Topaz neutered (she is a seal point siamese.) We had her spayed on th midline as when the fur grows back there, it is a little darker but not so noticeable. Anyway, the vet informed me that she had a siamese cat in the past, and she had her neutered through a flank incision. The fur grew back dark and was quite conspicuous, but after about a year following a couple of moults of the coat, it had returned to the correct pale fawn colour. Hopefully after a few more months the same will happen with your Meeka.
