When I was 22 Tootsie was born ,10th April 1990. She was the only girl in the litter and the runt. I was there when she as born (her mother was my mates cat) At 8 weeks old I finaly took her home to my house. From the off she was a little minx. She would run up curtains, she would bite, she ruined two sofa's with her scratching, she would regularly pee on any new rug or mat I bought. She was a house cat because I live in a flat and because she totally refused to go out no matter how hard I tried to encourage her. In November last year she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and congestive heart failure. For the last year i have religiously given her her medication twice a day every day. Not an easy task I can tell you! and patted her chest as a sort of physiotherapy to help ease her congestion. However, last tuesday she went off her food, she totally refused to eat anything but was drinking plenty of water. I took her to the vet and he reckoned it was her kidneys beginning to fail he gave her an injection and told me to come in on Monday morning to have some bloods taken. On Saturday night though she was not looking great and all through Sunday I kept an watchful eye on her but to be honest I knew she was on her way out. This morning I took her to the vet and had to have her put to sleep. She was my best friend for 16 years & 7 months. It's only been a couple of hours since she's gone and I miss her deperately. When we were younger, when I cried she would always jump up and headbutt me and lick away my tears and make me feel better. Today I need her to do that and she's gone. I think I'll miss her most tonight as she always slept on the bed. The house seems very still without her. I'm so sad ......... see you later Toots, I love you.

Oh Jennilou,

I am so sorry you lost your tootsie. I know how it feels, I lost my 16 year old Mozel last year and I still miss her terrrible. She was with me since she was 6 weeks old. I know how much it hurts, and you must take comfort in knowing you gave her a wonderful loving home for 16 years. You made the right decision and fortunately she didn't have to suffer. It is hard for me to write this because it opens my wounds and I feel the pain all over again. I usually do not post on this forum because of that, but I noticed that no one had posted on this yet, and I remember how comforted I was by everyone, so I hope that this offers you some comfort as well. Wishing you peace.

I am sorry to hear about your loss today as well. Even though I only had my little suzie for a few months, I want to think that I made a difference in her life, and I know you did for your little tootsie. Even though the next little while will be hard, they will always be a part of us, and go with us everywhere we go. For me, watching the nascar races and hockey games wil be hard cause that is something we shared together. May god bless tootsie's little soul, and may she have endless grounds to roam on

You wouldn't think that having to deal with something like this could hurt so much, but it does.

I look around at my babies and know that my house, my heart, my life would not be the same without them.

I know that you feel the same way.

Heartfelt sorry headbuts, and tearfully sad licks from KittenKiya's Clan.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Know your baby is healthy, happy, playing and having a wonderful time waiting for you to join her when it is time. What a wonderful reunion your going to have. In the mean time you have some fabulous memories and I am positive a heart full of love that you two shared to keep you warm. Your pain will ease and dissolve in awhile and the anticipation of seeing her again will takes it place.

So sorry for you, I too had to put my Snow to sleep on Saturday, she was 16 years old, and also had hyperthyroidism and congestive heart failure. Her breathing became so difficult I felt there was no other choice. It is so hard, I know, I have been so very depressed since Saturday, everyone on this forum has been so kind, it helps. Everywhere you look, you see them. But as I was told, you made the right decision, the only one you could make to put your baby at peace. It is so hard, I know, I am having great difficulty handling this also. Wishing you peace of mind. Karen

I am so sorry to hear about Tootsie. It is so hard to lose a loved one that has been with you for so long. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to give me their kind wishes. It really helped to know that there are people out there just like me who love their cat as much as I love mine. Your replies all qualified how I was feeling.

Incidentally, the night after Tootsie left this earth, just as I was drifting off to sleep, I saw her in my mind's eye. In my thoughts I exclaimed "oh my god there's the cat!" and she immediately disappeared. Now i have always had difficulty visualising anything, hence my exclamation when I saw the cat but I really believe that was Toots coming back to say goodbye one last time. I have to say I felt better next day and am now able to cope better in my life without Toots.

hi Jennilou,i guess we both have the same heavy heart, our poor Tootsie and Snow, if you feel up to it, get another, its not that you'll ever replace Tootsie, but us cat lovers need to have them in our lives. Sixteen years ago I lost my cat BooBoo kitty, and 2 weeks later I found Snow and brought her home, I wasn't trying to replace BooBoo, but as a cat lover, well, when I saw Snow, I fell in love. I have never regretted getting her so soon after BooBoo's death. If I did not take her, the breeder was going to "destroy her" (his words) as she was deaf and he thought it would be better. Could you understand that thinking, because I never did. Needless to say, I would not give her back to him and she spent 16 wonderful years with me. Still sad as you are, bless you and very, very big hugs to you.

I am just reading your post today, Nov. 14, but I wanted to extend my deepest condolences to you and my sympathy for your loss. Believe me, I have been through similar so many times, and it does not get any easier, nor is there "closure" (a ridiculous and superficial thought for a bond so deep!); but just want you to know that all of us kindred souls' thoughts are with you, and personally speaking, I look forward to reuniting with all of my loved ones over the Rainbow Bridge, where there is no more suffering or separation.
