We had this same problem with our female cat that we ended up having to get rid of. Wherever she would lay, there'd be a tiny little wet spot and our entire couch ended up reeking of cat urine. We brought her to the vet, and they didn't find anything unusual and gave us anit-anxiety meds for her. That didn't help, and getting rid of her was hard enough, but now about 6 months later my male cat is doing the same thing. He is neutered and otherwise healthy, though a little bit overweight. He's only 5, and I've had him since he was a kitten and I could not get rid of him too, but my husband is going crazy and threatning to give him up. We do not have enough money to pay vet bills. Please, I'm so scared I'll lose him!

You said he's a bit over weight, could he just be too big and there is pressue on his bladder?
I am not sure what the cause is.Hopefully someone else will see this and post an answer.

That's what we thought at first, but we got him a lion cut and now we can really see that he's just plain big. Plus the vet that gave him his shots said he was a pretty normal weight for his bone size. Unfortunately this was a military vet that is cheaper, but only gives shots. Even he said he doesn't know what's wrong.

What do you mean by "leaking urine?" Are you sure that he is not using whatever for a litter box?

I'm sure. It leaves a tiny little wet spot on the couch (we're sure to keep all blankets and anything else he can "bury" in off our floors and furniture), just enough to make the couch smell terrible. And even when he lays on my lap it happens

I know you said that a vet was consulted but this really sounds a lot like a UTI and the only thing that will solve the problem is antibiotics.
