just a bit worried as it has been a while since I was a kitten mom. My 7 mo old kitten (Stitch) has been acting a bit off... She hasnt come into heat yet and this last week has spent most of her time nappin. She is one of 6 cats in the house atm <I am babysitting my moms cat> all our other cats are altered and shots up to date. I have been watching stitch as we cannot afford to have her spayed and I dont want kittens. Can a kitten sleep alot before she comes into heat?? or am I just being over worried?

we live on the outside of a city and there are alot of toms always around. So I want to make sure when she starts her heat I am extra vigulant so she doesnt get outside.

Welcome to TCS. Not all cats show the clinical signs of heat..but have what are called silent heats instead.

What you need to know is that cats are induced ovulators and do not need to be in heat to become pregnant (as long as they are over 4 months of age, they can become pregnant). If your cat has been allowed outside or anywhere around an intact male, she could already be pregnant. If she hasn't been around intact males...you need to make sure that she has no opportunity to get outside until she is spayed. I would contact all the local vets and ask if they would be willing to give you a discount on the spay procedure. The longer she is intact, the greater her chance for developing certain cancers and pyometra.
