Ive had this on my mind all weekend. Saturday morning DS (16 months) was running around the house playing, while I got myself ready to go.

He was playin with a little plastic plate and all of a sudden I hear quiet in the house. When I check to see he is in his room crawling around 'pretending' to eat from the plate. Well I think that was what he was doing.

I read somewhere that 'pretending' doesnt start until much later? Is this true?

It's normal.
Deacon was around that age when he started to show imagination also.
He would pretend to feed teddy bears. He was 9 months old when he waked so I always thought he might be a little ahead of other kids. Does he go to daycare? Is he around older kids much? If so he will pick things up from them earlier then you expect.

I would say it is normal. If he's been around other kids, then he's picked it up from them.It seems my youngest DS was about that age when he started doing that too.
