Hello!
I was wondering what others experiences are with keeping a mother cat and one of her kittens? Does the mother start to resent having the baby around all the time after a certain age, or do they keep a strong bond?
I was considering adopting the mother of the new (male) kitten I am getting as well as the kitten, but I am not sure if they would get along well or not...

Some mom's get along great with their kittens and do not mind (and actually enjoy) being placed with one of their kittens...however other moms are ready to be DONE with motherhood and ready to go to their own home. Do you know how the mom has been with her kittens??

I kept momma and 4 of her 8 kittens, LOL.

She has kept a bond with all of the kittens, but the bond with the 2 girls is stronger than the 2 boys. This happened around puberty, even though they were neutered. She just started to be less affectionate with the boys, but not totally standoffish...just not as trusting of them. I think she just sensed that they were becoming adule males and knows that can be a threat. 9just my theory)

My momma cat didn't ever really resent any of them, after they were done nursing...she just put them in their place when she needed to. She is never mean to them, just lets them know when she is not interested. She definitely still holds a dominant role in our cat clan.

I think, for the most part they will at least get along unless you don't alter the kitten, that can cause problems for sure. But, a really close bond is totally dependent on the kitten and mothers personalities.
