I've been in some dangerous situations in my life, but nothing gets my heart racing and the adrenaline pumping more than going to a new doctor!
I had a doctor once who told me all about her separation, divorce, and custody battles every two months when I saw her. This same doctor told me "you're fine" when my TSH was 3, and "OMG!" when it was 18 (on the same meds). When it would swing down again, she'd tell me "you're fine" again when OBVIOUSLY there was something wrong!
After leaving that doctor, the next one was worse. When I told her I had 11 out of 12 symptoms of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, she said, "I don't appreciate patients diagnosing themselves!" and gave me a harsh lecture. She didn't have me tested for it, but my next doctor did, and I did have Hashimoto's. I found out the stupid doctor quit practicing a year later.
I did have a doctor save my life once. Dr. Ward in Austin, Texas, suspected what was wrong one morning and did emergency exploratory surgery that evening... I would have been dead within a day or two if it wasn't for him.
I have a good doctor now, but he's on leave for six months and the doctor taking his place is terrible.
How about you? How do you feel about going to your doctor or seeing a new one?
