Does anyone here have chronic pain? I have been having some strange things happen and I'm wondering if it's related to my pain. I've had pain for about 6 years, but really only the last 2 have been really bad. Lately, I fall asleep at work, or any time I'm silling still pretty much. I also am making mistakes in recipes, cooking things at the wrong temperature, burning things because I forget about them, and things like that. Do you think that the sleepiness is part of the pain thing, or something wonderfully new and different?

Yikes! That's not good! My best friend has chronic pain stemming from a car accident a few years ago. She's never mentioned anything like that. I'd deffinately be asking my doctor about that!

I would honestly get checked out by a cardiologist. I know how weird that sounds and totally off topic- but it really might not be. A lot of the things you're describing (and not to scare you), are similar to the signs of heart problems such as heart disease, heart attack and stroke. Sometimes it is hard to differentiate between symptoms caused by cronic pain ( which I also have- I have degenerative arthritious in both knees and athrtitious in my back from years of sports- i'm only 21
.) A few months back though, a lot of my symptoms were really weird so they sent me to a heart specialist to rule out more major problems before diagnosing other ones. Their reasoning was- heart disease is the number one killer of women ages 25 and up. And many, many times, women ignore the signs and think it's something else- also, heart problems are harder to detect in women than in men because the vessles in our cardiovascular system are smaller and often, things "seem" less related to heart issues if you're not thinking about it. I'm not saying that to scare you at all- just to let you know that you may want to have something such as heart disease or other underlying conditions ruled out before you look into other things. I would definitely have a cardiologist check you out and make them rule out any heart problems (they can cause sleepiness, pain, tingling, dizziness, fainting, pain, "heartburn" symptoms...etc)....definitely have heart disease and anything related ruled out. Then, if there is nothing else going on there- I would seek an arthritious specialist's opnion- a lot of time doctors that specialize in that also know a great deal about pain management and lifestyle changes that may help improve your condition.
I hope I didn't scare you- but I just thought it was worth mentioning- your symptoms match some of the early signs of heart disease....i am not a doctor nor am I trying to diagnose you in any way- but I do think you should ask about it and have it ruled out just to be safe
.and I honetly would feel bad if I didn't mention it. / Good luck sweetie. I hope you feel better soon and are able to get the answers you need
Keep us posted.

Your symptoms could also be thyroid-related. Fatigue, muscle pain, and forgetfulness are all symptoms of hypothyroidism.

It's referred to as a "brain-blow" because a common symptom is doing stuff like putting the scissors in the freezer, forgetting you left the bath water running, etc.

Cheers, from
SwampWitch

p.s. I've had cronic pain for years. Before my diagnosis of Hashimoto's Thryoiditis (I was being treated for hypothyroidism only) it was so bad that it took all my effort and strength of will to just get out of bed. Thank goodness that's behind me now! Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

I have had cronic pain for four years now from my knee injury! I do find that my concentration levels and sleep patterns are all over the place (I don't like to take too many pain killers, by the way)

I'm pretty tired and painful after a day of walking that I'm not on for long, but if you'd like to chat more, please do PM or email me!

I have chronic pain in my hip, from displasia and arthritis.
Are you on any new meds? Could this be effecting you in any way? It is possible to be on meds for some time and then become allergic to them - this happened to me.
Ask your doctor, just to be on the safe side.
I hope you feel better soon, let us know how you get on

Some very good ideas! I had forgotten about hypothyroid. I also don't take opioid pain killers - only aspirin plus prescription aspirin. I'm having a big blood test on Wednesday so some of these things will be checked.

I also suffer from chronic pain from arthritis. Even thought some of the drugs make me drowsy I have never fallen asleep at work. This is something you need to ask your doctor about.

I have had chronic pain in my knees for the last two years, and now have severe pain in one of my shoulders. Dealing with pain day after day just knocks the stuffing out of you.

There have been times when I have been driving home from work (at 3:00 pm) and I have just about fallen asleep at the wheel of the car. It scared the daylights out of me. I have taken everything I possibly could over the counter to lessen the pain and now nothing is working, so I have an appointment with the doctor on Monday (which I really did not want) because this pain is just unbelieveable.

You sit down, you hurt, you stand up, you hurt, you lay down, you hurt, you roll over in bed, you hurt. Damn I am sick of this.

I would go see the DR. None of us can know for sure, but your doc can help.

I hope you find out and I'm sending {{{{{{{healing}}}}}}} vibes your way

I'm glad you have an MD visit this week. Write down the symptoms, so you don't forget to tell him/her everything. Ask about a referral to a physical therapist...often they can teach you stretching and strengthening exercises that greatly reduce the pain.

Once you get the new symptoms under control, please discuss Cymbalta with your MD. It is a newer antidepressant that is very effective for pain. Not a pain killer, but helpful at those nagging pains like for fibromyalgia, etc. It may offer you some extra relief!

Aw, I'm sorry. I really know what you mean. I think maybe I don't sleep well or something. I'm glad you're going to the Dr. I'm not, but I may at some point.

I've had chronic back pain since I was 12 (i'm 38 now) and I've learnt to live with it...It's not worth having a spinal operation for it - and the likelihood that the op is not successful is high...I also suffer from Neck/Shoulder pain due to my back...

I just got some bloodwork back. It seems I am pretty anemic. Which would explain quite a lot of things - fatigue, forgetfulness, being cold all the time, no period for 6 months... So I'm waiting for a call back from the doctor to see where we go from here.

Have you had a sleep study done? It's possible that you may have sleep apnea where you wake up hundreds of times a night and stop breathing for short periods of time. This leads to complete exhaustion because of lack of sleep. I'm so exhausted all of the time and my attention span is less than zero and I have a hard time concentrating on things. I'm being scheduled to have a sleep study done.

This is good to know, and thankfully, easy enough to fix.

Yes, it may be just a step, but it's the first and easiest one so far, LOL.
