At last week's clinic, a miracle took place.
The clinc was held by Philly Ferals in the city's Animal Control facility. Toward the end of the clinic, a cart was wheeled in with six carriers--each had a cat on it's way to the Euthanasia Room. All were reasonably healthy amd quite friendly, they were suspected of having URIs, however mild. One was a declawed calico.
An intense debate followed. These cats did not need to die, but we all were full up with residents, fosters and recovering patients. This included volunteers, veterinarians, and veterinary students. The discovery that one of the condemned cats was a declawed housecat and that most were healthy and all were friendly ultimately resulted in all being saved. Although each of us was up to our eyeballs in cats, we ultimately found room for them.
I saw no happier sight than six empty carriers being wheeled away....
