Before I left last week, I used my vacuum, and it worked just fine.

I came back this week and went to use it, and it just wont suck! John didn't use it while I was gone (obviously
) When I use it - nothing goes up into the canister - it just stays in the hose, and when I went and pulled the hose off, all the crap fell out, so its obviously got some sucking issues

I've cleaned out the filter, looked in the hose to see if anything was blocking it, but nope, nothing.

What else should I do? I just got it in June - and I've never had any problems with it.

Any ideas?

On my vacuum you can take it apart- farther up where the hose goes into the body of the vacuum.... maybe something is stuck up there?

Edited to add:

That makes me think of when I first got my vacuum. I ordered it before I moved into my apartment & when it came my bro put it together for me on moving day. Well the next day I used it really quick in the morning then later in the evening I went to use it again and nothing... it wouldn't turn on or anything! I ended up taking the whole dang thing apart before I realized the outlet I had plugged it into is connected to a light switch
I felt like such an idiot but I was glad my vacuum wasn't broken!

sounds liek something I would do

It might be something lodged, I had to stick a broom handle in the hose one time to get something out, ok it was a huge furball
I've also had to to remove the brush and dig stuff out of the hole in there, don't even ask about that

get a long stick and try to shove it through the hose. Your hubby probably sucked up a potato chip bag and it's guming up the works. It the motor is coming on and no smoke is coming out I think there must be somthing in the hose.

Check to make sure the bag isn't full...even if it is almost full, change it. That's where a lot of my sucking issues lay.

Also, I take a wire coat hanger and snake it through the hose to get any misc hair unstuck.

Finally I would look at getting it repaired...maybe the sucking fan is done for.

Nothing sucks more than a vacuum that won't suck!!

Seriously though, it sounds like something (perhaps a cat toy) is stuck in the hose. If not, I'd be taking it back!

What kind of vacuum?

I have Fantom Fury and there are several places to check for blockages.

1. Hose
2. Pipe
3. Trap #1 at bottom
4. Trap #2 at bottom

If the dirt is making it into the hose but not the cannister, then there is a blockage somewhere between the beginning of the hose and where it enters the cannister. Also, check the hose for cracks. I discovered a crack in the hose near where the hose and pipe connect and that was interfering with suction. I put some duct tape around the area and that helped.

What I do to unclog the hose and tunnels above the trap is to unplug the vacuum and take a wire coat hanger that I've opened completely straight and then poke around inside the hose and hose bends to make sure that there isn't any clogs. I've actually found cups of hair, cat litter and dry cat food caught high up inside the traps that I couldn't see inside the hose, or feel at the trap exits.
