strong urine smell from male that was neutered late in life?

we've been looking at getting a male cat who is a retired breeder. He's 4 years old and is getting neutered now.
Our vet had told us that the urine smell, even in litter, from a potent male cat is very strong, and usually persists for a long time after fixing. They keep them in a separate room at the vet, with heavy ventilation, for this reason.

Can anyone confirm this fact? It would definitely affect our decision

It can take awhile from what I have heard ... I had a young male neutered and he still stunk but I wasnt feeding him well...

What kind of cat are you getting??

We are thinking of getting a purebred himalayan otherwise our other option is a purebred female belinise so we are trying to weigh our options with both. I just dont our house to smell like strong urine

Will there be other cats in the house? I have a retired E Burmese (neutered at 5 yrs) and a retired Aby (neutered at 4 yrs) in my home along with an entire Aby male. I swear, the entire Aby is still smellier than the other two. If there are no other males in your home, and the other cats were neutered early, there should be no problem in the pee smell as there will be no neccessity for dominance posturing.

we have one spayed female in the house right now. As for posturing, there wouldn't be any competition to speak of, but there would be the female to impress. Hey baby, check out this urine smell...
