I want a siamese kitten but my stepmom is certain that our 10yr old tabby, Quinn will run away. I'll admit Quinn gets spooked pretty easily. Like if I play a cat sound on the computer she will run like hell. Do you guys think she would run away for good just from a new cat? I'm confident if we introduce slowly there would be no problems.

If I could go back in time, I would have never brought a new kitten into the house with my old cat. The kitten constanly annoyed the older cat, and once it got bigger and stronger, he wopuld attack her. Save yourselfg a lot of grief and either get an older cat, or wait until your older one passes away.

Is she an outside cat? If she doesnt have where to run she wont be able to run away.

If you want her to be comfortable then I suggest starting off with a blanket with the kittens scent. Let her get confortable with the scent before bringing home the kitten. Then, what i'd do is bring home kitten, confine him/her to one room (i.e the bathroom) and let your older cat sniff and interact with the kitten through closed doors.

Then i'd place kitten in a large wire dog crate and let the tabby investigate the kitten. After about a week (more or less) I think they can have supervised playtimes together, only you'd have to make sure the kitten is bothering the older one too much and stressing her out. Good luck!

Well Id be getting the kitten from a breeder in florida and I live in massachusetts, so I can't really introduce the scent early. She is an indoor/outdoor cat although I would be getting the kitten in december where it is to cold to let her out. Do you think she would be used to the new cat by spring?

If you introduce the cats correctly you should have few problems. One thing I would suggest is that since Siamese cats only have one layer of fur (as opposed to other cats with an inner and outer layer) they should not be outdoor cats.

Having said that, Siamese cats are very active (especially as kittens) and may be too much for your older cat to handle. I don't think your older cat would actually go away and never come back but a kitten could be very disturbing for her to have to deal with. I would also recommend that you wait until your older cat crosses the bridge and then get 2 Siamese kitties. They really do better in pairs.

Wow I didn't realize it was that big of a trauma to bring a new cat in. Kind of sucks but I guess I'll have to deal.
