We had my mother over for dinner last night and while she was there I noticed that every single fish we have (40) in our 65 gallon tropical fish tank were at the top of the tank gasping for air! I asked Tony about it because I'm not a fish person and he said he'd done a 50% water change yesterday afternoon and the fish were probably just alittle stressed out but not to worry... so I didn't!

I took mom home and when I was driving back, Tony calls to ask how long I was going to be when I asked why he replied "because my fish are dying and I have to go to Tesco's (Superstore) to get some stuff!". I raced home to find 3 dead fishies in the Hospital Tank and 4 more in the large tank on their way out too! I was only gone 15 minutes so how could they all be dying so quickly? I did an amonnia and nitrite test and the reading was Toxic!

We spent 4 hours doing another 75% water change, retreated the water, removed the filter and did a complete overhaul, removed every plant and washed them and finally decided we'd done enough to save them!

We got to bed at 3am this morning and now I'm battling to keep my eyes open! To make matters worse, I overslept and missed my 6am morning cleaning job this morning so I made an excuse that I wasn't feeling well so I have to go in tonight! Grrrr!

I'm sooooooo tired!

They were all still gasping for air this morning when I ran out the door! Two have been put back into the hospital tank... think Tony did it before he went to work this morning and they seem better!

Tony's dad is at ours now doing a complete water change and I believe he said he thinks we are going to have to get new stones, plant, rock etc... we also have to do a 15% water change daily for the next week!

The funny thing is that we have recently had a little snail infestation and last night seems to have done the trick to get rid of them... they were all floating belly up (or snail trail up should I say) on the top of the water! Little buggers are dead! Yay!

That's why I don't have fish!
I always end up killing them, no matter what I do. I'd love to have a big aquarium! I hope all the rest make it for you guys!

We have no luck with fish either. Too little patience on my part, I think.

Hope the others are ok!

Thanks guys! I'm also hoping the others are going to be ok... we've spent a fortune getting the tank set up again after the move!

We've just had our first fry ever born and we are so excited! I did take the babies out and they are in an old godfish tank with an air curtain for oxygen! I'm not loosing those babies! I've protected them for weeks when ever the bigger and predatory fish come close to where the babies are hidden in the reeds!

We'll see when I get home if Tony's dad has managed to fix what ever we couldn't last night!
