I don't know how this man has lived this long

Today he went to a jobsite at Fort Desoto. He pulled up, put his work van in park and sat there for a few minutes doing paperwork before he got out. When he did get out guess what he stepped on....AN EASTERN DIAMONBACK RATTLESNAKE!

It was over 6 feet long! Stepped right on his neck (about 3 inches from his head). He looked down and it was striking his steel toe work boots. He said it felt like someone hitting his foot with a hammer. He couldn't take his foot off of it because if he did, it would have struck him numerous times. They're very fast!
Well he reached down and grabbed it! Right around it's neck, bare handed! He ended up having to kill it or it would have killed him. And he did it with his hands
It had 3 inch long fangs! The mate was about 30 feet away and went into the bushes...thank god!

Knowing no one would believe him he brought it home!
When I got to thier house tonight to go trick-or-treating my mom says "Your dad has something to show you" So I went in and asked him what he had.
He walked us out into the backyard, grabbed a bag and opened it.
I have NEVER seen a rattlesnake THIS big in my life! It had 12 rattles on it!
Tomorrow he is taking it to Fort Desoto which is a state park to show them how big they've gotten there. People go camping, fishing and everything there. He's also going to be on the news because of the way it all happened and how he killed it...
My dad has always been crazy like this (same man who likes to bring home pigmy rattlesnakes to my mom in Gatorade bottles
) but in this situation he had no choice. It was kill or be killed. Thank god he had "cat-like" reflexes!

Let me also say that he is a HUGE animal lover. He loves and respects every animal/reptile he meets. That's where I inherited my passion from!

Holy crap!! Talk about luck- to step right on it's neck

That's hilarious he brought it home to prove it! It's funny that sometimes people don't believe the truth. It reminds me of when my cousin got in an accident because a huge owl swooped at the windshield & it was snowy and she lost control. Well she thought no one would believe her so she told everyone it was a deer!

I'm glad everyone made it out ok.... well except for the snake! Geeze!

I do have pics he's emailing me, but they are a little gruesome. He had to decapitate it
and I didn't want to offend or gross anyone out

If you can use Photoshop or something similar you can draw a fake head on him
Or blur it out like on Cops!

My mom freaked out because we know what these can do if they did bite you.

I have to admit, with it being Halloween we had a little bit of fun with it.
They have a nieghbor whom they can't stand. He took the snake over to her house and stood on the porch while I rang the doorbell. When she answered my dad says "Trick-Or-Treat"
She screamed like she was shot!

Her husband (who we do like) came running through thier house and when he seen what my dad did, he died laughing
She was SOOO mad at hime
but we got a HUGE kick out of it.
Serves her right for all those years of telling on me when I snuck out!

Hey Alycia, any chance we could send the snake to Susie's house to visit the nut gnomes?

Here's the pictures of this monster! They aren't as gruesome as I thought so I didn't have to use photoshop. My dad is right at 6'2 if that tells you how long this bad boy was

I still shiver at the thought of stepping on this thing!
