Hello
I have a cat who is a cross of a pure himalayan and pure ragamuffin. We find that she sheds more in sporatic clumps of hair around the floor, rather than totally coating surfaces with hair like I notice shorthaired cats do. She also gets brushed at least once a day, with a haircut a few times a year

We are wanting to get another cat, perhaps a pure himalayan. Will we find the shedding habits to be similar to our himmie/rag, or is it the ragamuffin genes that are causing the minimal shedding that we are finding with our existing cat.

Any input would be great!

Don't know about the shedding issue, but I do know a purebred himi would require a lot more grooming then your cross does. Himi's coat mat easily and they have to be combed (not brushed) every day!

hmm our himi/rag cat has more hair than the pure himi does. I use the term "brush" loosely, we do have to comb our cat aswell as use the slicker brush.
The person who has the new cat said his coat is somewhat different right now than usual because he's got hormones raging from being bred, but he will be getting fixed this week. The amount of hair on each cat will be similar, but I don't know how the consistency of the hair will be

This is a picture of our himi/rag cross

When are cats supposed to start shedding? Mine is almost seven months old and has never shed nor had a hairball. I am wondering if this is because I comb him so much and remove so much fur every day or just because he is still quite young (He is a Himalyan-Persian.)
