Weepy, slightly mucky eyes

Tilly has this runny eye thing where runny brown stuff comes out of her tear ducts. The vet noticed it and while she commented on it she didnt think it was much of a problem as nothing was suggested to combat it. it doesn't seem to irritate her, although she blinks a little more in that eye. I read somewhere that it might be a blocked tearduct? It said that if that was so then only show cats were operated on. Should I be worried? We do try to wipe the goop away sometimes but she doesn't like it.

That actually sounds like some of the symptoms for Lily's herpes. Maybe you could call the vet and ask about that? I'm not an expert.

If her eyes get too sore then the vet could give her an eye ointment to clear up secondary bacterial infections, which seem to be common. That helped quite a bit with Lily. She's also getting oral antibiotics *just* to see if it helps. If it doesn't she'll be getting l-lysine.

There's a really recent thread on this:

I usually keep some OptiClear in the house. Once in a while, one of the cats gets something in their eyes.

If it is ongoing, however, I think a call to your vet would be good, perhaps the little one needs antibiotics to help break this cycle.

that's what i was told Pixel's was. later [years later] i found she had herpes. but all of mine get brown crusties occasionally - it's just more visible on Pixel & Java because of their white fur. Chip's can get quite built up, because i can't see it on his black fur. he's the only one who doesn't mind removel - the others all dislike it, but i do it anyway

Thanx for the advice, we'll start cleaning her up proper, and if it persists its back to the vet time
